Campgrounds and RV parks near Maroa, IL

Maroa sits in central Illinois between Bloomington and Decatur, within an easy drive of several state-managed lakes and recreation areas that anchor most RV trips in the region. The closest options range from small private and farm-stay sites to large public campgrounds with electric hookups, shower buildings, and lake access. Weldon Springs State Recreational Area, southeast of Clinton in DeWitt County, is a 550-acre park built around a spring-fed lake, with a Class A campground that has electric sites suited to trailers and motorhomes. A short distance east, Clinton Lake State Recreation Area covers roughly 9,300 acres around a large cooling lake and is one of the biggest public campgrounds in central Illinois. North toward LeRoy, Moraine View State Recreation Area covers 1,687 acres of glacial moraine terrain around 158-acre Dawson Lake, with the Timberline Ridge horse camp and other loops on site. Smaller private options near Maroa include Arrowhead Acres and Camp A While for travelers wanting a quieter base.

Public campgrounds in the area are operated by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and reservations are handled through the state's ExploreMoreIL reservation system. Sites at Weldon Springs, Clinton Lake, and Moraine View can be booked online, and a portion of sites at each park are typically held for first-come, first-served walk-ins outside peak weekends. Holiday weekends and summer Saturdays book up well in advance, so reserving early is recommended for full-hookup and pull-through sites, which are limited. Group camps and the Timberline Ridge horse camp at Moraine View are reserved separately, and some group areas may be closed seasonally. Private campgrounds in the area, including Arrowhead Acres and Camp A While, are booked directly with the operator. When reserving, check posted site dimensions, as some state-park pads are shorter than larger Class A motorhomes require.
