Campgrounds and RV parks near Metamora, IL

Metamora sits in Woodford County, roughly a fifteen-minute drive northeast of Peoria in the Illinois River valley. The village works well as a base for RV trips because most private campgrounds and lakeside parks in the Peoria area are within a thirty-minute radius, and Interstate 74 provides quick access from Bloomington and points east. The closest full-service option is Sankoty Lakes, a lakeside RV resort in Spring Bay with RV sites, glamping tents, cabins, a beach pavilion, and an on-site restaurant. Families looking for a more traditional campground often choose Timberline Campground in Goodfield, which sits just off I-74 and offers over 300 sites with full hookups, a pool, mini golf, and organized activities. Hickory Hill Campground and Kamp Komfort round out the private options within easy towing distance. Expect a mix of wooded private parks and river-valley sites. The terrain is gently rolling farmland broken by timbered ravines along the Illinois River, so most sites are level and either open or lightly shaded rather than backcountry.

Private campgrounds around Metamora take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and several use online booking platforms such as Campspot. Sankoty Lakes, Timberline Campground, Hickory Hill Campground, and Kamp Komfort all handle bookings this way, and weekend inventory in July and August can sell out several weeks ahead. For public land nearby, Illinois state parks and fish and wildlife areas use the state's ExploreMoreIL reservation portal run by the Department of Natural Resources. Sites can be reserved for up to fourteen nights within a thirty-day period, and reservations must be made at least three days before arrival. Holiday weekends, especially Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day, book earliest and may carry a two-night minimum. Check length and hookup limits at older parks before booking a larger RV.
