Campgrounds and RV parks near Momence, IL

Momence sits along the Kankakee River in eastern Kankakee County, Illinois, about an hour south of Chicago and within a short drive of the Indiana border. RV travellers use the town as a base for river recreation, farm-country cycling, and access to Kankakee River State Park, which stretches for 11 miles along both banks of the river a short drive west. Private RV parks cluster on all sides. Kankakee South KOA Holiday is the closest full-service resort option, with Emerald Trails Campground, Enchanted Shores, and Pioneer Family Campground, Inc. offering additional sites within a reasonable drive. Cedar Lake Ministries RV Park lies across the state line in northwest Indiana and works well for travellers combining the two states. The area is flat, easy to tow through, and served by I-57, which makes it a practical stop for RVers moving between Chicago and points south. Reservations, hookups, and amenities vary significantly between the state park and the private resorts.

State-park sites at Kankakee River State Park are booked through the Illinois DNR's ExploreMoreIL reservation system. Reservations can be made up to 180 days ahead and must be placed at least three days before arrival, so same-day and next-day bookings are not accepted online. A non-refundable reservation fee applies, and the full camping fee is charged at booking. Walk-up camping is possible when sites remain, but availability is not guaranteed on summer weekends. Renters must be at least 18 and able to establish camp at check-in. Private parks including Kankakee South KOA Holiday, Emerald Trails Campground, Enchanted Shores, Pioneer Family Campground, Inc., and Cedar Lake Ministries RV Park take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Booking two to eight weeks ahead is a reasonable target for summer weekends.
