Campgrounds near Morris, Illinois
Morris sits along the Illinois River and the historic Illinois and Michigan Canal in Grundy County, roughly an hour southwest of Chicago on Interstate 80. The town works well as an RV base for exploring the upper Illinois River valley, including nearby state parks and lock-and-dam sights on the river.
RV travelers have a mix of options within a short drive. Great Falls Campground at Illini State Park in Marseilles offers both electric and tent-only sites with picnic tables and fire rings, plus modern toilets and showers near the electrical loop and vault-style toilets in the tent-only area. Private resorts in the area include Leisure Lake Membership Resort, Glenwood RV Resort just outside the Illini State Park entrance in Marseilles, and Sun Retreats Millbrook and Jellystone Park of Chicago, both located west of Morris in the village of Millbrook.
Families traveling with kids often route toward Jellystone Park of Chicago for themed weekends and pool time, while anglers and paddlers tend to favor the state-park option on the river.
Things to do near Morris
The Illinois River drives most of the outdoor activity. Anglers find crappie, bass, bluegill, catfish, carp, bullheads, and other species in the Illinois River, and a boat ramp is available at Illini State Park. There is no motor limit on the river, but boaters should stay aware of barge traffic and the nearby Marseilles Lock and Dam.
On land, the Illinois and Michigan Canal corridor offers flat cycling and walking paths connecting Morris to Marseilles and beyond. Adventur-E-Bike Rental operates a bike concession at Illini State Park.
Starved Rock and Buffalo Rock state parks are both within a short drive west, offering canyon hikes, waterfalls after wet weather, and river overlooks. Families staying at Jellystone Park of Chicago typically split time between on-site pools and day trips into the state parks.

How to book campgrounds near Morris
State-park sites and private resorts use different reservation systems, so plan on booking each stop separately. Campsite reservations for Illini State Park are made online through the Illinois DNR's ExploreMoreIL portal. When reserving, specify which campground is preferred, Whitetail or Great Falls, since they offer different experiences and amenities, and have preferred dates and site numbers ready.
Private resorts including Leisure Lake Membership Resort, Sun Retreats Millbrook, Glenwood RV Resort, and Jellystone Park of Chicago each run their own booking channels, typically through the property website or by phone. Membership-based resorts may restrict stays to members or affiliated club guests, so confirm eligibility before booking.
Summer weekends, July 4th, and themed weekends at family resorts tend to sell out weeks or months in advance.
What to expect on-site
Expect a mix of full-hookup private-resort sites and simpler state-park loops. At Illini State Park, both tent and trailer campsites are offered, including electric and sanitation service, and some sites offer views of the river. Most campsites are shaded by large hardwoods, providing good cover on hot summer days, and firewood is available from local vendors near the park entrance.
River-adjacent sites can be lively. The Illini campground is positioned near a lock and dam, with views of tugboat and barge traffic on the river. Barge horns and train noise are common in the corridor.
Cell service is generally reliable near Morris and along I-80, but can drop inside wooded state-park loops. Bring insect repellent for summer stays, especially near river backwaters and canal segments.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Morris, IL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Morris, IL?
RV rental in Morris, IL is one of the most affordable ways to explore Grundy County and the wider Illinois River Valley. On RVezy, you can expect travel trailers to start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans around $125 to $200, and larger Class A or Class C motorhomes typically run $175 to $325 per night. Booking midweek and shoulder season (April, May, September, or October) is the smart-money move, since rates climb during the Grundy County Corn Festival in late July and peak Starved Rock summer weekends. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book and look for hosts offering weekly discounts to find a cheap RV rental in Morris that fits your budget without sacrificing comfort.
enjoyillinois.com/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Morris, IL?
Good news: for most RV rentals in Morris, IL, a regular driver's license is all you need. Illinois recognizes your home-state license, and the vast majority of travel trailers, campervans, and Class C motorhomes on RVezy fall under the standard Class D weight threshold of 16,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). RVezy approved drivers must be 25 or older, and identification is verified through the platform during checkout, so there's no extra paperwork to chase down. Heads up: if you're eyeing a very large Class A diesel pusher, message the host first to confirm the rig fits your license. Most Morris-area listings are well under that threshold.

Every RV rental in Morris, IL booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head down Interstate 80 toward Starved Rock with confidence. You choose your protection level at checkout (not the host), and the plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, reducing your out-of-pocket risk if the unexpected happens. RVezy's support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip for added peace of mind. Pro tip: for longer Illinois River Valley road trips, the higher protection tier often pairs best with the extra miles and time on the road.

Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy for every reservation in Morris, IL. There's a money-back grace period right after you book, and additional refund tiers depend on how far in advance you cancel. Northern Illinois weather can shift quickly with summer thunderstorms or winter ice, so it's reassuring to know there's a clear framework in place. You'll see the full cancellation details during checkout and in your RVezy account, and the support team is one message away if your plans shift. Pro tip: book early for Corn Festival week in late July, then relax knowing you're protected by RVezy's cancellation policy.

Use the Delivery filter when searching to see hosts who offer this service and their per-mile rate. It's a game-changer for travel trailers and fifth wheels if you don't have a tow vehicle. Pro tip: ask about delivery to Channahon State Park or Gebhard Woods, both within 15 minutes of downtown Morris.

For a state-park feel, Channahon State Park and Illini State Park's Whitetail and Great Falls campgrounds are local favorites. Pro tip: Starved Rock fills up months ahead for fall color season, lock in October weekends as early as you can.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park/starvedrock.htmlWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Morris, IL?
Late April through mid-October is prime time for a Morris, IL RV trip, with the absolute sweet spot being May, June, September, and early October. Summer highs in Morris average 82 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit with warm, humid evenings perfect for campfires, while spring and fall bring crisp 55 to 75 degree days and dramatically thinner crowds at Starved Rock. October is magical for fall foliage along the I&M Canal. Winters get cold (highs in the 30s, lows often in the teens) and many campgrounds close from November through March, though winter-ready RV rentals are available for hardy travelers. Pro tip: book your motorhome rental in Morris for late September to hit Corn Festival aftermath, peak weather, and shoulder-season pricing.
weather.gov/lot/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one around Morris?

The terrain around Grundy County is flat farmland and gentle river bluffs, with wide Interstate 80 and Illinois Route 47 giving you plenty of room to get comfortable. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water system, and dump procedures so you're not guessing. You can also message the host before booking with any question, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included. Pro tip: take your first practice loop on the quiet country roads south of Morris toward Goose Lake Prairie before pointing the rig at Chicago, you'll feel like a pro by the second day.
idot.illinois.gov/transportation-system/transportation-management/safety-engineering/safe-travel.htmlWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my Morris RV trip?

Your host is also a great first call for quirks specific to their RV, like resetting a generator or troubleshooting the awning. RVezy's support team is reachable before, during, and after the trip if anything escalates. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV's tire pressure label and propane shutoff before you leave the driveway, it makes any roadside call faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Morris RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on virtually every RV road trip from Morris. From here, Wisconsin's Dells are just 3 hours north, Indiana Dunes is 2 hours east, and the Mississippi River towns of Iowa are under 3 hours west, all classic Midwest routes. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and protection package, so message the host directly from the listing before booking if a cross-border trip is on the menu. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: a popular 7-day loop from Morris is Starved Rock to Galena to Wisconsin Dells back through Rockford, plenty of mileage but easy driving the whole way.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat should I budget for fuel on my Morris, IL RV trip?
Fuel is the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, and Morris is actually a great launch point because Illinois gas prices along Interstate 80 tend to run a few cents cheaper than the Chicago metro. Expect 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 18 to 22 MPG for a campervan, and your tow-vehicle MPG minus roughly 30 percent when pulling a travel trailer. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop to Starved Rock and back, budget around $150 to $250 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Love's or Pilot near the Morris Interstate 80 exits before heading north toward Chicago, prices typically jump inside the metro.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Morris?
For the popular spots, sooner is better. Starved Rock State Park campground takes reservations through Reserve America/Camp Illinois, and summer weekends plus October fall-color weekends sell out quickly when the window opens. Channahon State Park and Gebhard Woods are smaller, more rustic options often booked closer to the date. Private parks like Sun Retreats Millbrook and Yogi Bear's Jellystone in Millbrook accept reservations far in advance for holiday weekends. Mid-week stays in May or September can often be booked just days ahead. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for the day your target Starved Rock date opens, log in early Central time, and you'll usually snag your pick of riverside sites.
camp.exploremoreil.com/What are driving conditions like around Morris, IL?
Driving around Morris is about as easy as RV driving gets in the Midwest. The land is flat to gently rolling, Interstate 80 runs right through town with wide lanes and frequent exits, and Illinois Route 47 gives you a calm north-south alternative. Watch for two local quirks: summer thunderstorms can roll in fast off the prairie (pull over and wait them out), and winter brings the occasional black ice on the bridges over the Illinois River and I&M Canal. Heading toward Chicago, traffic thickens significantly past Joliet, especially weekday rush hours. Pro tip: time your return from Chicago on a Sunday before noon or after 7 p.m. to dodge the Interstate 80 backups near Bolingbrook.
idot.illinois.gov/travel-information/road-conditions.htmlWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Morris?

Illinois state parks like Channahon, Illini, and Kankakee River typically have electric-only sites with a central water fill and dump station, plus clean shower buildings. The Love's RV Hookup right in Morris off Interstate 80 has 30/50-amp full hookups for quick overnights. Pro tip: if your RV needs a mid-trip dump and you're not staying at a hookup site, the Love's location in Morris and Channahon State Park both have public dump stations, super handy on a Starved Rock loop.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park/channahon.htmlWhat's typically included inside the RV?

Expect a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, and sink; a bathroom with toilet and shower; comfortable sleeping for 2 to 10 depending on the rig; climate control with air conditioning and furnace; a TV with DVD or streaming on many listings; and seatbelts for every passenger required by Illinois law. Most listings include linens, kitchenware, and outdoor chairs, and many feature an onboard generator for off-grid stops at Goose Lake Prairie or boondocking near the Illinois River. Pro tip: filter for listings with a generator and solar if you're planning to dry camp at Buffalo Rock State Park, which has no hookups but stunning Illinois River bluff views.

Pickup and drop-off are typically at the host's home in or near Morris, but delivery to nearby campgrounds (Starved Rock, Channahon, Sun Retreats Millbrook) is widely available for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary, so look for unlimited mileage upgrades on long trips. Pro tip: bundle linens, kitchen kit, and delivery upfront, it usually shaves money versus adding them piecemeal.

The deposit is held separately from your booking payment and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video with the host at pickup and drop-off, it's the single best way to avoid any deposit disputes and keeps your Starved Rock trip ending on a high note.
