Campgrounds near Morton, Illinois
Morton sits in Tazewell County in central Illinois, roughly ten miles southeast of Peoria along Interstate 74. The town is known for its pumpkin processing industry, home to the Nestle Libby's plant, and works as a practical base for RV travelers exploring the Illinois River valley, the Peoria metro, and surrounding farmland and state parks. Most campgrounds in the area are privately operated and cater to RVs with full or partial hookups, plus a mix of tent and cabin options.
Close-in choices include Kentuckiana Campground and Kamp Komfort, both small private parks serving the Peoria-Morton corridor in a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold, snowy winters. A short drive east on I-74 leads to Timberline Campground and Timberline Campground Goodfield, which cater to families. North of Morton in Spring Bay, Sankoty Lakes offers a more upscale lakeside experience with RV sites, cabins, and glamping tents along the Sankoty Aquifer.
Public camping in the region centers on Illinois Department of Natural Resources sites, which supplement the private options listed above.
Things to do near Morton
Morton itself hosts the annual Pumpkin Festival each September, a four-day event with a parade, carnival rides, live entertainment, and pumpkin-themed food. The town has a walkable downtown, parks with a splash pad, and access to the Rock Island Trail for cycling and walking.
Within a short drive, families can reach the Peoria Zoo, Peoria Riverfront Museum, Wildlife Prairie Park in Hanna City, and the Caterpillar Visitors Center. The Illinois River provides boating and fishing access, and Spring Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area draws anglers and paddlers.
For day trips, Starved Rock State Park lies about ninety minutes northeast and offers canyon hikes and waterfalls. Dickson Mounds Museum near Lewistown covers regional Native American history and pairs well with a river drive.

Central Illinois has a humid continental climate with warm humid summers, cold snowy winters, and precipitation spread through the year. May is typically the wettest month, and winter is the driest stretch. Peak RV season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when private campgrounds operate at full capacity and holiday weekends around the Fourth of July and Labor Day fill weeks in advance.
Spring brings green landscapes and active fishing, but also thunderstorms and occasional severe weather, since central Illinois sits within a corridor prone to spring tornadoes. Fall is often the most comfortable season for camping, with cooler nights, lower humidity, and harvest activity across the county. The Morton Pumpkin Festival in mid-September draws roughly seventy-five thousand visitors and tightens availability at nearby parks.
Winter camping is limited. Many private campgrounds close or operate on a reduced basis from late October through March, and freezing temperatures require winterized rigs and heated water lines.

Greg was great! The RV was delivered in a timely fashion and Greg walked me through its various functions and amenities. I was able to travel with my family (5 of us in all) from Central Illinois to Estes Park, Colorado. We were able to step out of our RV every morning to the sight of mountains surrounding us, and the RV handled very well on the mountain roads! Thanks, Greg! My family and I were able to make some terrific memories!

Greg and his wife were excellent to work with and we had the best time traveling in their RV! Really a great experience for first-timers!

How to book
Private campgrounds around Morton, including Kentuckiana Campground, Timberline Campground, Timberline Campground Goodfield, Sankoty Lakes, and Kamp Komfort, typically take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Full-hookup sites, pull-throughs, and lakeside spots book earliest, especially for summer weekends and holiday periods.
For Illinois state park campgrounds in the region, reservations go through the state's ExploreMoreIL system. Most sites are reservable from May 1 through October 31, with a maximum stay of 14 nights within any 30-day period, and reservations must be made at least three days before the arrival date.
For the Pumpkin Festival weekend in mid-September and the Fourth of July, reserve well ahead. Midweek stays in May, early June, and October tend to have wider availability and are a better fit for shorter trips or first-time RV renters.
What to expect
Campgrounds near Morton range from compact roadside parks with basic hookups to larger family-oriented parks with pools, playgrounds, and weekend activities. Sankoty Lakes leans upscale with concrete pads, lake access, glamping tents, and cabins, while Timberline Campground and Timberline Campground Goodfield focus on family amenities. Kentuckiana Campground and Kamp Komfort are smaller and quieter.
Site surfaces are usually gravel or grass, and mature shade trees are common at the older parks. Cell coverage is generally reliable across Tazewell and Woodford counties, though Wi-Fi quality at individual parks varies.
Expect mosquitoes and gnats near water in summer, occasional severe thunderstorms, and warm humid nights in July and August. Grocery, fuel, and RV supply stops are easy to find along Illinois Route 150 and Interstate 74 through Morton, East Peoria, and Washington.

enjoyillinois.com/What should I budget for fuel on a Morton RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost on any RV trip, so plan ahead. Illinois regular gas typically runs among the higher prices in the Midwest, though the Peoria and Morton area often comes in below Chicago metro pricing. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon for Class A and Class C motorhomes, 14 to 20 MPG for campervans, and similar to your tow vehicle for travel trailers. A 500-mile loop through central Illinois in a Class C can run a few hundred dollars in fuel depending on current prices. Pro tip: check AAA's daily fuel report for Illinois before your trip and, if your route swings west, fill up in Missouri or Iowa where gas often runs noticeably cheaper.
gasprices.aaa.com/?state=ILHow far in advance should I book a campground near Morton?
For Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) state park sites like Jubilee College or Sand Ridge State Forest, book through ExploreMoreIL as soon as your dates are firm — popular weekends fill 6 to 8 weeks out, and Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends require a two- or three-night minimum. Most state campsites are reservable for stays between May 1 and October 31, with a $5 non-refundable reservation fee plus the camping fee paid up front. Private parks like Carl Spindler, Millpoint, and Kamp Komfort book directly through their own sites. Pro tip: for Morton Pumpkin Festival weekend in mid-September, reserve nearby campsites by June, locals lock these spots down early.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks/camp/reservation-information.htmlWhat are the local driving conditions like around Morton?

The village sits at the crossroads of I-74 and I-155 with flat farmland and gentle terrain, no mountain passes, no tight switchbacks. Watch for occasional thunderstorms and high winds in spring and summer, and slow down for the Illinois River bridges into Peoria, which can get gusty. In winter (December through March) snow and ice can make travel tricky, which is one reason most rentals run April through October. Pro tip: avoid downtown Peoria's older streets and low railroad underpasses with anything over 11 feet tall, stick to I-74 and I-474 (the bypass) when crossing the river in a tall motorhome.

State park campgrounds like Jubilee College have electric sites plus shared water spigots and a central dump station, but no sewer at individual sites. Potable water fills are usually available at the campground entrance or dump station. Many include TVs, Bluetooth speakers, a generator, outdoor awning, and some offer WiFi hotspots. Campervan rental Morton options are more compact but still include sleeping, a kitchenette, and often a wet bath. Pro tip: bundle add-ons at booking rather than adding them last-minute, hosts often discount packaged extras, and message ahead to confirm pickup and dropoff times that fit your schedule.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Morton%2C%20IllinoisHow does payment and the security deposit work?
RVezy handles all payments securely through the platform, so you will never hand cash to your host. You pay your trip total (rental, fees, protection, taxes) at booking with a credit or debit card. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is pre-authorized on your card before your trip, with the amount set by the host on the listing. As long as you return the RV in the same condition you received it, with the agreed fuel level and tanks per the listing, the deposit hold is released after the trip. Pro tip: do a quick walkthrough video at pickup and dropoff with your host, it is the simplest way to keep your full deposit and start planning your next Morton RV trip with zero hassle.
