Campgrounds near North Aurora, Illinois
North Aurora sits along the Fox River in Kane County, roughly 40 miles west of downtown Chicago. RV travelers use it as a base for the Fox Valley corridor and the western suburbs, with quick access to I-88 and Route 31. The area blends riverfront parks, farm country, and the Chicago metro, so campground choices range from resort-style RV parks to family camp-resorts.
Fox Bluff RV Resort in nearby Yorkville spans over a mile of frontage on the Fox River, sits adjacent to 134-acre Saw Wee Kee Park, and offers riverfront, creekfront, pondfront, and wooded sites alongside a resort pool, spa, renovated bath house, and laundry facilities. Sun Retreats Millbrook, in the rural village of Millbrook to the southwest, offers full-hookup RV sites and cabins on wooded grounds. Jellystone Park of Chicago and Leisure Lake Membership Resort round out the family-focused options.
For travelers combining camping with city entertainment, Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort in Joliet is the only casino in the Midwest that features an RV park, placing sites steps from dining, entertainment, and casino action, useful for short stopovers on the way through the region.
Things to do near North Aurora
The Fox River is the main draw. Paddlers and anglers use launches up and down the corridor between Aurora, Oswego, and Yorkville, and riverside parks and campgrounds support fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and tubing from the water.
Families typically build a trip around a water park or state park day. Raging Waves Waterpark, Illinois's largest water park, sits about ten minutes from the Yorkville area, and Saw Wee Kee Park is next door to Fox Bluff. Starved Rock State Park, about an hour southwest, is the region's headline hiking destination for canyons and waterfalls. Chicago-bound travelers can drive in for museums, Navy Pier, and Lake Michigan beaches.
Closer in, North Aurora and Batavia have Fox River Trail access for biking, plus dining and breweries in the historic downtowns along the river.

Northern Illinois has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are warm and fairly wet, with June being the wettest month, winters are cold with regular snowfall, and precipitation is spread relatively evenly through the year, with winter moisture often arriving as snow. Peak RV season runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, when private resorts fill weekends well in advance and themed activity weekends dominate the calendar.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with cooler nights and fewer crowds. Fall color along the Fox River typically peaks in mid to late October. Some private parks operate year-round, while the Hollywood Casino RV park in Joliet operates on an April 1 to October 31 season, a pattern common among private resorts in the area.
Winter camping options are limited. Illinois state park campsites shift to first-come, first-served or reduced service in the off-season, and some parks accept reservations year-round, while others operate on a seasonal window listed on the ExploreMoreIL site.

Very very helpful to have a sizable fridge and freezer. Microwave a big plus. Solar panels and Shore Power allowed us to use comfy air-connditioning. Thanks.

How to book campgrounds near North Aurora
Private RV resorts in the Fox Valley take reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Fox Bluff RV Resort, Sun Retreats Millbrook, Jellystone Park of Chicago, and Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort all book online, and holiday weekends typically require multi-night minimums. Fox Bluff accepts overnight, monthly, and seasonal reservations directly through its property, so plan around minimum-stay policies when building a weekend itinerary.
For Illinois state park campsites, online reservations for IDNR-hosted camping, cabins, group camps, and shelters are made through the ExploreMoreIL website using Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. Campsites can be reserved up to six months in advance and must be booked at least three days before the campsite is needed, and a non-refundable reservation fee applies at booking. Membership parks like Leisure Lake serve members and their guests, so confirm access rules before arrival.
What to expect
Sites in the immediate North Aurora area lean toward developed, full-hookup RV parks rather than primitive camping. Expect paved or gravel pads, 30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer at the resort-style parks, plus pools, playgrounds, and organized activities on summer weekends.
Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort features clean showers and bathrooms, complimentary morning coffee, juice, and donuts, and pet-friendly pull-through spots with good pads and picnic tables, though sewer hookups are located just outside the park behind the hotel rather than at each site. Family resorts like Jellystone Park of Chicago and Sun Retreats Millbrook run themed weekends, so weekend arrivals with kids should expect a busy, social atmosphere rather than a quiet retreat.
Cell coverage is strong across the Fox Valley. Big-rig access is generally good at the newer resorts, but confirm site length when booking with a longer coach or trailer.

Yes, and you're going to love it. First time renting an RV on RVezy is designed to be stress-free: every host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the generator, water systems, slide-outs, propane, and dump valves. They'll answer questions, share their phone number, and many leave a printed cheat sheet inside the rig. Pro tip: choose a smaller Class C or travel trailer for your first rental, they're easier to maneuver on local roads like Randall Road and Orchard Road than a big Class A.
