Campgrounds and RV parks near Olympia Fields, IL

Olympia Fields sits in Chicago's south suburbs in Cook County, roughly 30 miles from downtown and within an hour's drive of the Indiana state line. RV travelers use it as a base for exploring the greater Chicagoland region without paying for city-center parking, with access to I-57, I-80, and I-294 for quick moves in any direction. The closest private RV parks lie south and east, in Will County, Illinois and Lake County, Indiana. Emerald Trails Campground in Crete is open year round and offers full-service RV sites for 30-amp, plus pop-up and tent camping, roughly a half mile from the Indiana state line. Enchanted Shores in Peotone and Martin Campground in Joliet round out the Illinois-side options, while Cedar Lake Ministries RV Park and Cedar Lake Bible Retreat and RV Park sit lakeside in northwest Indiana on the shores of Cedar Lake. Public-land camping in the immediate area is limited. Cook County Forest Preserves do not offer RV hookups near Olympia Fields, so most RV travelers rely on private parks or drive out to Illinois or Indiana state parks for full-service state-run sites.

Illinois state park sites are booked through the state's ExploreMoreIL system. The booking window opens six months (180 days) before the arrival date, and reservations must be made at least three days before the campsite is needed. Campsites can be reserved for a maximum of 14 nights within a 30-day period, and Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends require a two-night minimum. Payment covers a non-refundable reservation fee plus the full camping and utility fees at the time of booking, by Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. Phone and mail reservations are no longer accepted. Private parks vary. Emerald Trails Campground and Enchanted Shores take direct reservations by phone or through their websites. Martin Campground is largely first-come, first-served, so plan around walk-up availability. For Cedar Lake Ministries RV Park, book through the ministry's RV Park page and note that outside firewood from beyond Lake County, Indiana is not allowed.
