Campgrounds and RV parks near Prestbury, IL

The Fox River is the main outdoor draw. Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area in Kendall County, about five miles west of Yorkville, covers roughly 1,350 acres with two small lakes, prairie restoration, hiking, and fishing for bluegill, largemouth bass, and catfish, plus northern pike and walleye in the Fox River. The Marge Cline Whitewater Course in downtown Yorkville gives kayakers and canoeists a 1,100-foot run on the Fox River. Families traveling with kids often build a day around Raging Waves Waterpark in Yorkville, the largest waterpark in Illinois. Guests at Fox Bluff RV Resort also have on-site swimming, pickleball, basketball, volleyball, and river tubing without leaving the property. Jellystone Park of Chicago runs themed weekends, mini golf, and organized activities aimed at younger campers.

Northern Illinois has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summer highs average in the low 80s Fahrenheit, and June is typically the wettest month, so afternoon thunderstorms are common. This is the busiest camping window, and popular sites at private resorts and state campgrounds fill quickly for Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends. Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with cooler nights and lower demand. Fall brings color along the Fox River corridor and quieter trails at Silver Springs. Winters are cold, with January lows averaging in the mid-teens Fahrenheit and regular snowfall. Seasonal closures matter for planning. The west entrance of Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area closes from December 1 through April 1 each year. Jellystone Park of Chicago operates roughly April through mid-October. Most Illinois state park campsites are reservable from May 1 through October 31, though some parks accept reservations year-round.

Terrain around Prestbury is flat to gently rolling, a mix of farmland, oak woodlands, and river corridor. Roads leading to the campgrounds are paved and easy to navigate in a rental RV, though the final approach to river-adjacent parks can include narrow lanes and a rail crossing. Most private RV resorts in the area offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer, along with bathhouses, laundry, and dump stations. Larger rigs are generally accommodated, though maximum site length varies by resort, so confirm with the operator when booking. Expect summer humidity, mosquitoes near the river at dusk, and the possibility of severe thunderstorms. Cell service is generally reliable across Kane and Kendall counties, and grocery stores, fuel, and propane are available in Yorkville, Oswego, and Sugar Grove within a short drive.
