Campgrounds and RV parks near Ridge Farm, IL

Ridge Farm sits in southern Vermilion County in east-central Illinois, a short drive from the Middle Fork of the Vermilion River corridor and the largest cluster of public camping in this part of the state. Most RV travelers use Ridge Farm as a base for Kickapoo State Recreation Area and Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area, both reached by way of I-74 north of town. Kickapoo State Recreation Area covers 2,842 acres of reclaimed surface-mine land near Oakwood, with 22 deep-water ponds and the Middle Fork river running through the site. Redear Campground - Kickapoo State Recreation Area sits within the park along Long Lake and is one of the tent-focused loops, while the main electrified loops handle larger rigs. Other options in the area include Horseshoe Lakes RV Campground for full-service stays, Peaceful Waters Campground, Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area Equestrian for horse camping, and Turkey Run Campground for travelers pushing east into Indiana's Wabash Valley.

Reservations for the main Kickapoo State Recreation Area campground run through ExploreMoreIL from May 1 through October 31, with a booking window of up to 180 days in advance; outside that window, sites are first-come, first-served. All campers must obtain a camping permit from the campground host or through the reservation system before entering, and the maximum stay is 14 days in a 30-day period. Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area operates its campsites, including the equestrian area, on a first-come, first-served basis, with no hookups and no showers, so arrive self-contained. Private parks in the area, including Horseshoe Lakes RV Campground, Peaceful Waters Campground, and Turkey Run Campground, take direct bookings through the operators and are the best bet for full hookups.
