Campgrounds and RV parks near Rosemont, IL

The Chicago metro is the main draw: downtown museums, Lake Michigan beaches, and Rosemont's own entertainment district are all reachable by car or the Blue Line. Families staying at Fish Lake Beach Camping Resort or Grass Lake Marina and RV Park can also spend days on the Chain O'Lakes, a connected system of lakes and rivers well suited to boating and fishing. At Illinois Beach State Park, expect lakefront hiking and swimming along the Lake Michigan shore. Recreational activities include boating, swimming, hiking, bicycling, camping, bird watching, and picnicking, and hiking trails cross dune areas, wetlands, prairie, and black oak savanna. On-site amenities at Fish Lake Beach include a heated pool, mini golf, playgrounds, and basketball courts, plus themed weekends and events.

The camping season in the Chicago area is short and concentrated in the warm months. Fish Lake Beach Camping Resort runs its season from May 1 through October 15, during some of the best weather the Chicago area has to offer. At Illinois Beach State Park, campsites are available from April 1 through November 15, with reservations accepted from May 1 to September 30. Summer is the peak, and sites go fast. July and August are the busiest months at Illinois Beach State Park, so reservations should be made early. Holiday weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day sell out furthest in advance across both public and private parks in Lake County. Shoulder seasons are quieter but cooler and windier. Spring is one of the best times to visit Illinois Beach State Park for RV camping, since the park does not open until mid-April, temperatures are still mild, winds can be chilly, and highs range through the 50s and 60s with lows in the upper 30s to mid-40s. Fall brings color and fewer bugs, but nights turn cold quickly by late October.

Illinois Beach State Park runs a formal check-in process. The South Unit campground offers 241 Class A Premium sites with electricity, showers, and sanitary facilities, and camping permits are required upon arrival with a camping unit. Electric service is 20/30 amp, and sites vary in depth, so larger rigs should check dimensions before booking. Mosquitoes come up in nearly every review, especially near standing water, so bring strong repellent. Private resorts in the area lean toward family amenities. Expect features like a heated pool, mini golf, playgrounds, and basketball courts, along with clean bathhouses, a convenience store, laundry, and golf cart rentals.
