Camping near Twin Grove, Illinois
Twin Grove is a small community in McLean County, central Illinois, roughly between Bloomington-Normal and Peoria. The surrounding area is farmland, small towns, and pockets of hardwood groves, with easy access via Interstate 74 and Interstate 39. RV travelers use it as a quiet base for Route 66 road trips, Illinois State University visits, and stops between Chicago and St. Louis.
Private RV parks dominate the immediate area. Kamp Komfort in Carlock sits close to I-74 with full hookups and big-rig pull-throughs. Timberline Campground and Timberline Campground Goodfield lie a short drive west toward Goodfield, and Hickory Hill Campground and Kentuckiana Campground round out the options for travelers wanting family-style parks with amenities.
Public land is limited near Twin Grove itself, but Comlara Park and Evergreen Lake to the north, plus Moraine View State Recreation Area to the east, offer day-use hiking, fishing, and paddling within an hour's drive.
Things to do near Twin Grove
Comlara Park on Evergreen Lake is the closest public outdoor draw, with hiking trails, a swim beach, kayak and canoe rentals, and shoreline fishing for bass, crappie, and catfish. Moraine View State Recreation Area adds more trail miles, Dawson Lake, and equestrian routes.
Route 66 runs through the region, and RV travelers can string together stops in Pontiac, Atlanta, and Funks Grove, home to a long-running maple sirup operation. Bloomington-Normal offers the Miller Park Zoo, the Children's Discovery Museum, and college sports at Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan.
For kids, most private campgrounds in the area run seasonal pools, playgrounds, and weekend activities from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Late spring brings green fields and full lakes but also the wettest months of the year, with thunderstorms common in May and June. Summer runs warm and humid, with highs regularly in the upper 20s Celsius and occasional severe weather; this is peak season for family sites and pool use. Corn and soybean fields shape the landscape from June onward.
September and October are widely considered the best RV window: warm days, cool nights, harvest activity, and fall color in the wooded groves. Reservations for holiday weekends, Illinois State University football weekends, and Route 66 festivals should be locked in well ahead.

Greg was great! The RV was delivered in a timely fashion and Greg walked me through its various functions and amenities. I was able to travel with my family (5 of us in all) from Central Illinois to Estes Park, Colorado. We were able to step out of our RV every morning to the sight of mountains surrounding us, and the RV handled very well on the mountain roads! Thanks, Greg! My family and I were able to make some terrific memories!
