Campgrounds and RV parks near Brookston, IN

Lake Shafer is the main draw north of town, with boating, fishing, and the Indiana Beach boardwalk. The amusement park offers roller coasters, kiddie rides, water slides, and a boardwalk along the lake. Guests at the Indiana Beach / Monticello KOA Holiday can typically walk or shuttle over to the amusement park. South of Brookston, Prophetstown State Park offers five trails that combine to over 11 miles in length, traversing prairies, wetlands, and land near the Wabash River. Families use the seasonal Aquatic Center, open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and The Farm at Prophetstown living-history site. The Tippecanoe Battlefield Museum sits about 2 miles away, and Wolf Park is roughly 5 miles from the park, with wolf, bison, and fox viewing programs. For quieter days, the Tippecanoe River is popular for paddling and fishing.

The Brookston area has a humid continental climate marked by a very large seasonal temperature contrast. Summers are warm and fairly wet, with precipitation spread relatively evenly throughout the year, and winters are cold and bring regular snowfall. Peak camping season runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, with a strong shoulder in September and early October. The best time to visit Prophetstown State Park is during the warmer months, from late spring to early fall, when all facilities including the Aquatic Center are fully operational. Indiana Beach and its KOA follow a similar rhythm, with the amusement park running seasonally from spring into fall. Weekends near July 4 and Labor Day sell out earliest, especially lake-adjacent and full-hookup sites. Winter camping is limited. Prophetstown State Park is open year round, but during the off-season the campground may close some amenities if the weather gets too severe, such as the restrooms, water collection points, and full hookup possibilities. Most private parks close or run reduced services from late fall through March.

Prophetstown offers a modern, open-prairie setting rather than a wooded one. The Savannah Loop contains the 53 sites with 50-amp electric-only hookups in the eastern half of the campground, and sites are great for rigs up to 59 feet in length, with a paved parking area, picnic table, and fire ring at each site. The Spruce Loop holds the full-hookup sites, with mostly level pads. Restrooms, hot showers, and a dump station are on site. The Indiana Beach / Monticello KOA Holiday runs as a family resort with a swimming pool, playgrounds, cabins, and mini golf alongside RV sites. Expect noise and crowds during peak amusement-park hours. Smaller private parks near Brookston tend to be quieter, with basic hookups, longer-term residents, and easier lake or river access. Cell phone reception can be hard to come by at Prophetstown, so prepare accordingly; bring bug spray for river-adjacent sites in summer.
