Campgrounds and RV parks near Monon, IN

Water and river activities dominate the area. Paddlers can float the Tippecanoe River, which borders seven miles of Tippecanoe River State Park. Hikers and cyclists have solid options too. Tippecanoe River State Park offers 23 miles of trails, 9 miles of which are hiking-only, with the remainder open to hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. Prophetstown adds paved bike paths, prairie loops, and an aquatic center with a 30-foot tube slide, lazy river float area, zero-entry pool, and an aquatic activity area with basketball. History and wildlife round out the trip: the Tippecanoe Battlefield and Museum, the Farm at Prophetstown living-history site, and nearby Wolf Park are all within a short drive.

Peak camping season in this part of Indiana runs late spring through early fall. Peak season at Prophetstown State Park runs from April through October, and the park is open year-round. Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day book heavily, especially at private parks tied to Indiana Beach, so lock in dates well ahead. Spring brings green-up, wildflowers on the Prophetstown prairies, and cool nights that can still drop below freezing in March. Summer is warm, humid, and thunderstorm-prone, which is when river paddling, lake days, and the amusement park are at full swing. Fall delivers cooler, drier weather, hardwood color along the Tippecanoe, and thinner crowds after Labor Day. Winter is the quiet shoulder. State parks remain open, though the main campground season at Tippecanoe River State Park effectively runs mid-May through mid-November, and during the off-season some amenities such as restrooms, water points, and full hookups may close if weather turns severe. Private seasonal parks tied to Indiana Beach typically close for the cold months; confirm dates before towing in.

Expect flat to gently rolling terrain, farm country, and a mix of hardwood river corridors and restored prairie. At Tippecanoe River State Park, the main family campground has 112 electric sites with 30/50 amp service, gravel pads, picnic tables, and fire rings, plus a dump station near the park entrance; no water or sewer hookups are provided at the site. Horsemens Camp is primitive with no hookups. At Prophetstown, all sites have electric hookups and roughly half of the campground also has full hookups. Cell service is uneven. Cell reception can be hard to come by at Prophetstown, and coverage is similarly patchy along the Tippecanoe River corridor, so download maps and reservations in advance. Quiet hours are enforced at state parks from 11pm to 7am, and generators may only be operated from 7am to 11pm local time. Pets are welcome on a leash no longer than 6 feet, but not in swimming areas or park buildings.
