Campgrounds and RV parks near Oxford, IN

Prophetstown State Park is the anchor attraction. An aquatic center offers a tube slide, lazy river, splash zones and zero-entry wading area. The park features paved and natural trails traversing prairies, wetlands, and land along the Wabash River. History sits alongside the outdoors. Living history programs are conducted at The Farm at Prophetstown, where visitors can learn about 1920s farm life. The Tippecanoe Battlefield and Museum in Battle Ground marks the 1811 battle site and pairs well with a state park day. Closer to Oxford, expect small-town diners, county fairgrounds events in summer, and lake fishing at private parks like Charlarose Lake and Campground. Purdue University in West Lafayette adds college-town dining, and the Columbia Park Zoo offers a family stop in Lafayette.

Central Indiana runs a full four-season calendar. Lafayette experiences a humid continental climate, marked by a very large seasonal temperature contrast. Summers are warm and fairly wet, with precipitation spread relatively evenly throughout the year. Winters are cold and bring regular snowfall, contributing to the overall fairly wet conditions. Late spring through early fall is peak RV season. Peak season at Prophetstown State Park runs from April until October, and the park is open all year round. Weekends fill fastest around Memorial Day, Independence Day, Purdue football weekends, and Labor Day, so booking Prophetstown well ahead for those dates is smart. Winter is the slow season. Many private parks in the area operate seasonally and close or reduce services once temperatures drop. Prophetstown stays open year round, though during the off-season, the campground may close some amenities if the weather gets too severe, such as the restrooms, water collection points, and full hookup possibilities.

Sites in this part of Indiana are generally level and easy to back into. At Prophetstown, sites are great for rigs that are up to 59 feet in length and, at each site, you will find a paved area to park your RV along with a picnic table and fire ring, with dump station access and modern showers and restrooms nearby. Visitors note that the park offers a unique prairie setting rather than a wooded environment, so shade at the electric loop is limited; plan awnings accordingly. Private parks tend to be smaller and quieter, with hookup levels varying by operator. The full hookup options in the 100's section are highly valued at Prophetstown for larger rigs. Cell coverage is solid near I-65 and Lafayette but can thin out in the farmland between Oxford and Hillsboro. Bring bug spray for evenings near the Wabash and Tippecanoe rivers, and expect farm traffic on county roads during planting and harvest.
