Campgrounds near Baldwin
Baldwin sits in St. Mary Parish in south Louisiana's Cajun Coast, between New Iberia and Morgan City along US 90. The area is flat, low-lying bayou country on the western edge of the Atchafalaya Basin, and RV travelers use it as a base for fishing, birding, and Cajun heritage stops rather than a destination in itself.
Camping options within a short drive cover the full range. Cypress Bayou Casino RV Park in nearby Charenton offers full-hookup sites on casino grounds with 30 and 50-amp service, water, and sewer. Lake Fausse Pointe State Park, on the edge of the Atchafalaya Basin, has 50 water-and-electric RV sites plus 18 waterfront cabins. Kemper Williams Park St Mary Parish Park in Patterson is a parish facility with a large campground next to an 18-hole public golf course and aviation museum.
For waterfront camping, Burns Point Boat Launch and Campground sits at the end of Highway 317 on East Cote Blanche Bay with full-hookup sites and a public boat launch. Koc Kampground rounds out the private options in the immediate area.
Things to do around Baldwin
Fishing and paddling dominate the area. Lake Fausse Pointe State Park sits next to a labyrinth of Atchafalaya Basin waterways, with a boat launch, canoe and kayak rentals, three hiking trails, and a marked canoe trail. Burns Point Boat Launch and Campground offers shore fishing, a fishing pier, and boat access to East Cote Blanche Bay and Gulf waters.
Cajun culture is close at hand. St. Martinville and the Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site are short drives north, and New Iberia, Avery Island (home of Tabasco), and the Chitimacha tribal lands near Charenton add half-day itineraries. Cypress Bayou Casino RV Park guests have adjacent access to the casino's dining and entertainment.
Families find playgrounds and a splash station at Lake Fausse Pointe, plus ball fields, tennis courts, a nature trail, and the aviation museum at Kemper Williams Park St Mary Parish Park.

The shoulder seasons work best for RV travel in the Baldwin area. Mid-October through April brings lower humidity, fewer mosquitoes, and comfortable daytime highs, and this window overlaps with peak birding along the coast and in the basin. State-park sites and cabins book heavily during spring break and holiday weekends, so planning ahead matters.
Summer runs hot and wet. Afternoon thunderstorms are common from June through August, August is typically the wettest month, and heat and humidity make midday activity uncomfortable. The Atlantic hurricane season peaks August through October, and coastal parks such as Burns Point Boat Launch and Campground can close on short notice when storms approach the Gulf.
Winter is mild but variable. Overnight lows occasionally dip near freezing, most campgrounds stay open year-round, and rainfall is steady rather than heavy. Fishing remains productive through the cooler months, particularly in the interior bayous around Lake Fausse Pointe State Park.
How to book a site near Baldwin
Lake Fausse Pointe State Park is reserved through the Louisiana State Parks reservation system (ReserveAmerica) online or by phone. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance, a non-refundable transaction fee applies, and the maximum stay is 14 to 15 consecutive days. Cabins booked far ahead follow a separate deposit and payment schedule.
Cypress Bayou Casino RV Park takes reservations directly through the casino resort. Kemper Williams Park St Mary Parish Park is administered by St. Mary Parish and reservations are handled by phone through the park office. Burns Point Boat Launch and Campground is a St. Mary Parish facility operating on a first-come, first-served basis, with a small day-use entry fee at the gate. Koc Kampground handles bookings directly with the operator.
For holiday weekends, spring break, and major Cajun-country festivals, book four to eight weeks out to secure a full-hookup site.
What to expect on arrival
Terrain is flat and pads are generally level, which simplifies setup for larger rigs. Lake Fausse Pointe State Park uses back-in asphalt pads with water and electric; a dump station, hot showers, laundry, and a boat launch are on site. Cypress Bayou Casino RV Park is set up for big rigs with pull-throughs, full hookups, and 50-amp service. Kemper Williams Park St Mary Parish Park mixes full-hookup pull-throughs with water-and-electric back-ins across a large, shaded campground.
Cell coverage is decent along the US 90 corridor and at parks near Patterson and Charenton, but drops in the deeper basin around Lake Fausse Pointe. Expect mosquitoes and biting flies from late spring through fall; bring repellent, screens, and long sleeves for dusk. Alligators are present in basin and coastal waterways, so keep pets leashed near water.
The access road to Burns Point Boat Launch and Campground runs roughly 16 miles off US 90 through sugarcane country; drive slowly on the final approach.
