Campgrounds and RV parks near Delcambre, LA

The waterfront is the main draw. Bayou Carlin Cove has a fishing pier and a launch with a good vantage on the working shrimp boats, and the nearby North Pier Marina offers direct water access to Lake Peigneur and the Gulf. The Delcambre Direct Seafood program lets visitors buy shrimp straight from local boats. Day trips are short. Avery Island and the TABASCO factory sit east of town, Jefferson Island and Rip Van Winkle Gardens are just north, and Abbeville's historic square and Steen's Cane Syrup mill are a quick drive west. Palmetto Island State Park adds a boat launch, canoe and kayak lagoons on interior bayous, walking trails, and reliable alligator and bird viewing along the Vermilion River.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in this part of Louisiana. Average spring highs run in the mid 70s to mid 80s Fahrenheit with lower humidity than summer, and fall brings similar daytime temperatures with less rain than the peak wet months. Both shoulder seasons see good site availability at private parks around Delcambre. Summer is hot and wet. August is typically the hottest and wettest month, with average highs near 90°F, high humidity, and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November and peaks in August and September, and it can force short-notice closures at coastal parks and campgrounds. Travelers should watch National Hurricane Center advisories when booking in those months. Winter is short and mild. January is the coolest month, with average lows in the mid 40s and average highs around 60°F, and hard freezes are uncommon. The Delcambre Shrimp Festival, held on the third weekend of August in downtown Delcambre, books nearby sites out well in advance.

Expect a working-coast, small-town setting rather than a resort scene. Private RV parks in and around Delcambre tend to be smaller operations with full hookups, gravel or concrete pads, and quiet, adult-friendly layouts. Betty's RV Park in nearby Abbeville is a well-known Cajun Country stop with a strong national reputation among traveling RVers. Big-rig access is generally good on the main highways, but rural approaches use narrow parish roads. At Palmetto Island State Park, the campground has improved sites with two comfort stations, and some sites have a concrete substrate. Cell service can be patchy. The surrounding area is low, wet, and buggy in warm months, so screens, repellent, and rain gear matter. Alligators, deer, and wading birds are common along the Vermilion River and interior lagoons.
