Campgrounds and RV parks near DeRidder, LA

Fishing drives most itineraries. Toledo Bend Reservoir has repeatedly been ranked among the top bass lakes in the United States by Bassmaster, and the water also holds white perch, catfish, and bream reachable from boat ramps and piers inside South Toledo Bend State Park. Bundick Lake, closer to town, is a smaller local favorite for bass, catfish, and bream fishing from the shore or a kayak. Beyond angling, South Toledo Bend State Park offers hiking, mountain biking, birding, and an OHV trail across LA Highway 191, and the park is a known bald eagle nesting area. In town, the Beauregard Parish Jail, better known as the Gothic Jail of DeRidder, is a short detour with local history for families breaking up a driving day.

DeRidder has a humid subtropical climate with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. Spring, roughly March through May, is the sweet spot for RV travel: daytime highs in the 70s and 80s, cool nights, and active largemouth bass moving into shallow water during the spawn. Wildflowers and dogwoods bloom through the piney woods, and campgrounds are busy but not saturated. Summer is hot and humid, with highs regularly in the low to mid 90s and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Fishing shifts to early morning and late evening, and shaded, wooded sites become a real advantage. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity in August and September; storms tracking inland from the Gulf can bring heavy rain and wind to Beauregard and Vernon parishes. Fall cools quickly after October and is a strong second window for camping. Winter stays are viable in this area, since parks in southwest Louisiana operate through the cool months, though hard freezes and rare ice events do occur.

Sites around DeRidder tend to be wooded, level, and shaded by tall pines. Restrooms and showers at South Toledo Bend State Park are generally well maintained, with flush toilets, showers, and a fish cleaning station on site. Cabins there include cookware, cooking utensils, dinnerware, silverware, towels, and linens; guests bring their own food and personal supplies. Access is easy for RVs: US-171 runs north-south through DeRidder, and routes toward the reservoir use well-maintained state highways with only gradual grades. Cell coverage is generally reliable in town and patchier in the pine forest and along the lake. A Louisiana fishing license is required on both public and private waters; licenses can be bought online through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries before arrival.
