Campgrounds and RV parks near Dulac, LA

Fishing is the main draw. The marshes around Dulac, Dularge, and Cocodrie are known for redfish, speckled trout, flounder, sheepshead, and black drum, with guided inshore and offshore charters running out of local marinas. Launches and charter services are plentiful along Bayou Grand Caillou and down to Cocodrie. Swamp and airboat tours operate out of the Houma area and give a close look at alligators, wading birds, and cypress-tupelo wetlands. Downtown Houma has Cajun restaurants, live music, and Mardi Gras events in season. The Atchafalaya Basin, the largest river swamp in the country, lies a short drive west and supports paddling, birding, and additional tour operators. Families often pair a fishing morning with an afternoon swamp tour or a stop for boudin and gumbo.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. March through May brings warm days, lower humidity than summer, and strong inshore fishing. October and November cool off, dry out, and typically deliver some of the year's best weather for camping, with November historically the driest month in the region. Summer, June through August, is hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and heavy mosquito pressure in the marsh. It is also the heart of Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity from mid-August through October. Gulf Coast RVers should monitor NOAA and National Hurricane Center advisories and be prepared to relocate inland on short notice. Winter is mild by North American standards, with occasional cold fronts pushing through. Fog is common on winter mornings along the bayous, and snow is rare. Many campgrounds stay open year-round, but confirm holiday-week availability, especially around Mardi Gras and spring fishing tournaments.

Terrain is flat, low, and wet. Roads south of Houma cross bayous and drainage canals, and highway shoulders can be narrow, so allow extra time and take turns slowly with a towed rig. Cell coverage is generally solid along the main routes but can thin out deep in the marsh. Expect humidity, mosquitoes, and biting flies from late spring through early fall. Bring repellent, screens, and a plan for shade. Fresh seafood, boudin, and Cajun kitchens are easy to find, and locals are used to visitors asking about fishing conditions and launches. Parks tend to be functional rather than resort-style, oriented around anglers and offshore workers. Amenities commonly include full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi of varying quality. Confirm pet policies and any restrictions on outdoor cooking or fish cleaning at your site.
