Fishing drives most trips in this corner of Louisiana. Toledo Bend Reservoir sits in the Lake Charles forecast area of west-central Louisiana and is widely regarded as one of the top bass lakes in the United States. South Toledo Bend State Park provides direct water access with a boat ramp, fishing pier, and lake-view campsites. Bundick Lake and Anacoco Lake offer quieter fishing closer to base. South Toledo Bend State Park is the only Louisiana state park that permits off-road vehicle use, with a designated trail system set aside from the main campground. The park also has a nature trail, an interpretive center, and bald eagle nesting habitat. Beyond the campgrounds, families visit the Museum of West Louisiana in Leesville, the historic Gothic Jail in DeRidder, and hiking trails in the nearby Kisatchie National Forest units.
