Campgrounds and RV parks near Fort Polk South, LA

Fort Polk South sits in Vernon Parish in west-central Louisiana, surrounded by the longleaf pine country of the Kisatchie National Forest and within a short drive of the Toledo Bend Reservoir on the Texas border. The area is a practical base for RV travelers visiting the Joint Readiness Training Center, families of soldiers stationed at what is now Fort Johnson, and anglers heading for one of the region's well-known bass lakes. RV options range from small private parks close to town, including Shady Lake RV Park and Pine Grove Estates and RV Park, to lakeside stays such as Bundick Lake RV Park. For a state park setting, South Toledo Bend State Park offers waterfront sites on bluffs over the reservoir, and Pleasure Point - State Recreation Area provides additional lake access on the Louisiana shore. Most sites in the area are pine-shaded, level, and reachable on paved parish roads, which makes towing a larger rig manageable in nearly every season.

Louisiana state park sites and cabins, including those at South Toledo Bend State Park, are reserved through the state's central reservation system at reservations.gooutdoorslouisiana.com or by calling 1-833-609-0686, and can be booked up to 13 months in advance and no later than 48 hours before arrival. Weekend reservations require a 2-night minimum stay, and a $4.50 non-refundable fee is assessed on each reservation transaction. Private parks in the area, such as Shady Lake RV Park, Pine Grove Estates and RV Park, and Bundick Lake RV Park, generally take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Spring and fall weekends fill first, and holiday weekends around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day should be booked several weeks ahead. Long-term monthly sites are often available at private parks for workers and contractors serving Fort Johnson.
