Campgrounds and RV parks near Jeanerette, LA

Water is the main draw. Lake Fausse Pointe State Park offers a boat launch into the Atchafalaya waterways, three hiking trails, a canoe trail, and rentals for canoes, kayaks, and flat boats at the visitor center. Fishing, birdwatching, and paddling through cypress stands are the typical day plans. Culture and history sit within a short drive. The Jeanerette Museum covers the local sugar cane industry, Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site is in St. Martinville, and Avery Island, home of Tabasco and the Jungle Gardens, lies just past New Iberia. The Chitimacha Tribe operates a museum in Charenton next to Cypress Bayou Casino. Families staying at Isle of Iberia RV Resort get on-site swimming and a lazy river, which helps on hot afternoons when outdoor exploring becomes tough.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in the Jeanerette area. March through May brings mild highs climbing from the mid-60s to the mid-80s Fahrenheit, wildflowers, and manageable humidity. October and November cool off noticeably, mosquitoes thin out, and swamp visibility improves as vegetation dies back. Summer is hot, humid, and stormy. June through August routinely sees highs near 90 Fahrenheit with afternoon thunderstorms and the year's heaviest rainfall. This overlaps with the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June 1 through November 30 and is historically most active from mid-August through October. RV travelers should watch the National Hurricane Center outlook and build flexibility into any late-summer itinerary along the Gulf Coast. Winter is mild but damp. January lows average in the mid-40s Fahrenheit and hard freezes are uncommon, though rain is frequent. Lake Fausse Pointe State Park stays open year-round, and private parks in the area also operate through the winter, making the region a viable snowbird stop.

Expect flat terrain, high humidity, and heavy tree canopy in most natural areas. Cell service is very limited inside the Atchafalaya Basin, and Wi-Fi at Lake Fausse Pointe State Park is unreliable, so download maps and reservations before arriving. GPS routing through Baldwin or Charenton can send drivers onto gravel roads, and RV travel trailers cannot cross the pontoon bridge on that approach. The recommended route is the Butte La Rose exit off I-10. Private parks along the Highway 90 corridor tend to be open, sunny, and light on shade, with paved or concrete pads. Bring insect repellent for mosquitoes and no-see-ums, sun protection for open sites, and drinking water reserves. Alligators are present in most bayous and lakes, so keep pets leashed and away from the water's edge.
