Campgrounds near Lockport
Lockport sits along Bayou Lafourche in south-central Louisiana, roughly an hour southwest of New Orleans and about twenty minutes north of Houma. RV travelers use it as a quiet base between the New Orleans metro area and the coastal wetlands, with easy access to US-90 and LA-1.
Options close to town lean toward small, full-hookup RV parks. Capri Court Motorhome Park and South Houma RV Park serve the Houma corridor to the south, while Laplace Trailer- RV Park sits closer to the I-10 crossing between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. For travelers wanting a metro base with resort-style amenities, New Orleans KOA Holiday is the standard stop on the west side of the city.
The closest state-run camping is Bayou Segnette State Park in Westwego, about an hour east. It offers 98 improved campsites with water and electric hookups plus waterfront cabins, and puts campers a short drive from the French Quarter.
Things to do near Lockport
The surrounding parishes are built around water. Swamp tours, airboat rides, and guided fishing trips run out of Houma and the Barataria basin, and Bayou Segnette State Park has its own boat launch with access to marsh and cypress swamp where alligators, wading birds, and raptors are common sightings.
Culture is close at hand. The French Quarter, Garden District, and City Park in New Orleans are reachable as day trips, and Cajun music venues, boudin stops, and sugar-cane country line the drive between Lockport and Lafayette.
Families traveling with kids often pair a state-park stay with the wave pool and playgrounds at Bayou Segnette, then head into the city for beignets and streetcars. Louisiana fishing licenses are required for anyone sixteen and older.

South Louisiana has a long warm season and a short, mild winter. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with daytime highs in the seventies and low eighties and lower humidity than the summer months. These are also the busiest windows around New Orleans, driven by Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, and French Quarter Fest in spring and by football weekends and Halloween events in fall.
Summer is hot, humid, and stormy. Afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, with peak activity from mid-August through October. Coastal state parks and lower-lying private parks can close on short notice when a storm enters the Gulf.
Winter is the quiet season. Temperatures stay mild enough for comfortable camping, sites are easier to book, and birding along the Mississippi Flyway peaks between November and February.
How to book campgrounds near Lockport
Private parks near Lockport, including Capri Court Motorhome Park, South Houma RV Park, and Laplace Trailer- RV Park, are typically booked directly by phone or through the park's own website. Monthly stays are common in the area because of oilfield workforce demand, so calling ahead helps confirm nightly availability.
New Orleans KOA Holiday uses the standard KOA reservation system online or by phone, and books up well in advance for Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, Sugar Bowl weekend, and other major New Orleans events.
Bayou Segnette State Park is reserved through the Louisiana State Parks system online or by call center, up to 13 months before arrival, with a small non-refundable transaction fee on each reservation. Weekends, holidays, and festival periods fill quickly, and the maximum stay for campsites is 15 consecutive days.
What to expect near Lockport
Terrain around Lockport is flat, low, and wet. Sites at private parks tend to be paved or gravel pull-throughs with full hookups, sized for larger rigs used by workforce travelers. Shade is limited at many properties, so awnings and interior cooling matter from late spring through early fall.
At Bayou Segnette State Park, RV sites have water and electricity with a central dump station, level pads, picnic tables, and access to comfort stations with showers and laundry. A wave pool, playgrounds, and a nature trail sit inside the park.
Expect mosquitoes, high humidity, and occasional heavy rain. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Houma, Lockport, and the New Orleans metro, but weakens in the marsh. Pets are welcome at most parks on a leash.
