Campgrounds and RV parks near Longville, LA

Fishing and paddling are the main draws. Bundick Lake, just west of town, offers bass and bream fishing from small boats and kayaks, and several private parks provide direct lake or pond access for guests. At Sam Houston Jones State Park, two boat launches are located on the West Fork of the Calcasieu River, providing access to Calcasieu Lake about 20 miles away. Three hiking trails wind through the park, including an old stagecoach road that follows the banks of tributaries to the Calcasieu River. At certain times of year, nearly 200 species of birds can be seen at or within 30 miles of the site. Day trips from Longville include Lake Charles for casinos, museums, and Cajun food, plus the Creole Nature Trail scenic byway heading south toward the Gulf marshes.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV camping in the Longville area. Daytime highs sit in the seventies and low eighties, humidity is manageable, and songbird migration peaks. These shoulder seasons also line up with the strongest bookings at Sam Houston Jones State Park, so reserve early. Summers are long, hot, and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common and heat indices frequently climbing above 100°F. Shaded pine sites and full hookups for running air conditioning become important. Biting insects and alligators are active, so insect repellent and awareness around waterways matter. Winters are mild but wet. Freezes occur but rarely last long, and most campgrounds stay open year round. Hurricane season runs from June through November, peaking in August and September, and RV travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories. Hurricanes Laura and Delta damaged every building and knocked down more than 80 percent of the trees at Sam Houston Jones State Park, forcing an extended closure and rebuild.

Roads into Longville-area campgrounds are mostly rural two-lane highways with occasional soft shoulders. Larger Class A and fifth-wheel rigs should confirm site length and turning radius when booking at smaller private parks, as some older sites are tighter than newer builds. Expect pine-shaded and grassy sites, with 30- and 50-amp service common at private parks. The rebuilt Sam Houston Jones campground includes new RV sites with full sewer and 50-amp electric hookups. Cell service often does not work in remote areas, including many park sites, though coverage on major carriers is generally usable along US-171. Wildlife includes deer, alligators, snakes, and abundant birdlife. Keep distance from alligators and snakes, and bring bug spray, sunscreen, and a rain plan, as storms can move through quickly.
