Campgrounds near Merrydale, Louisiana
Merrydale is an unincorporated community in East Baton Rouge Parish, sitting just north of downtown Baton Rouge and inside the metro area. For RV travelers, it functions as a base for exploring the state capital, LSU, and the plantation corridor along the Mississippi River, with easy access to I-10, I-12, and US-61.
Campground options nearby lean toward full-hookup private RV parks rather than wilderness sites. Close-in choices include Port Allen RV Park and Courtney's RV Park, with Baton Rouge KOA Holiday located in Denham Springs east of the city. Tiger's Trail RV Resort and Westgate RV Park round out the closest options for renters who want paved pads, laundry, and predictable amenities.
For state-park camping with full hookups, the nearest developed option is Tickfaw State Park, roughly 40 miles east of Baton Rouge in Springfield, with separate loops for tent and RV sites and boardwalk trails through four Louisiana ecosystems. Louisiana state parks are managed by the Office of State Parks and bookable through the Go Outdoors Louisiana system.
Things to do near Merrydale
In Baton Rouge itself, RV travelers can tour the Louisiana State Capitol, the USS Kidd on the Mississippi riverfront, and the Louisiana Art and Science Museum with its planetarium. The Baton Rouge Zoo works well for a half-day with kids, and LSU's campus and Tiger Stadium sit just south of downtown.
Outdoor time is easy to add. The paved Mississippi River levee bike path runs for miles from downtown south toward LSU and is accessible from several camping areas. Tickfaw State Park offers a water playground and boardwalk swamp trails, and day trips reach St. Francisville's historic sites and the Atchafalaya Basin for paddling or a swamp tour.
Fall Saturdays draw large crowds for LSU football, which affects both traffic and campground availability across the metro.

Fall brings a slow cooldown from September into November with lower humidity and less rain, though weekends around LSU home games fill campgrounds early.

This RV was exactly as described! We utilized the delivery and setup option! The communication with the owner was very prompt and timely! The camper was clean with a great snack basket for us! We also rented the golf cart and it was fantastic! We would definitely rent the camper again!

Excellent experience renting this camper. It was all set up ready to go when we arrived at our camp site and it was very spacious for my family. The outside kitchen with mini fridge and Blackstone grill was very convenient. I cooked breakfast on it both mornings. Thanks for a great experience at Brushy Creek Ranch!

How to book campgrounds near Merrydale
Private RV parks in the Baton Rouge area, including Courtney's RV Park, Port Allen RV Park, Baton Rouge KOA Holiday, Tiger's Trail RV Resort, and Westgate RV Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Baton Rouge KOA bookings can also be made through the KOA reservation platform. For LSU football weekends, Mardi Gras season, and major festivals, book several months out.
For Louisiana state parks such as Tickfaw, reservations are made through the Go Outdoors Louisiana central reservation system online or by calling 1-833-609-0686. The call center operates Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST, and is closed on state holidays. Reservations can be made up to 13 months in advance with a minimum 48-hour lead time, and customers must be at least 21 years of age to reserve a campsite.
What to expect on the ground
Most campgrounds close to Merrydale are paved or graveled RV parks with full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi rather than tent-heavy sites. Expect flat terrain, mature shade trees, and quick freeway access. Baton Rouge KOA Holiday adds resort features like a pool, dog park, and mini-golf that work well for families with kids.
Bring bug spray. Mosquitoes and no-see-ums are active from spring through fall, especially near water. Humidity is high most of the year, so plan for AC use and rinse the rig after rain to keep pollen and road grime off.
Traffic around Baton Rouge, particularly on I-10 across the Mississippi River bridge, backs up during rush hours and LSU game days. Arriving mid-morning or early afternoon usually makes check-in smoother.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Merrydale, LA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Merrydale, Louisiana?
An RV rental in Merrydale is one of the more affordable ways to explore south Louisiana. On RVezy, travel trailers and campervans typically start around $125 to $200 per night, while larger Class A and Class C motorhomes generally run $200 to $325 per night, depending on age, size, and season. Mid-week dates and shoulder seasons like late February or early November tend to offer the best value for a cheap RV rental in Merrydale. Tip: filter for Instant Book and choose pickup over delivery to see the lowest base prices, then add extras like camp chairs or a kayak only if you actually need them.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Merrydale%2C%20LouisianaWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Merrydale?
Good news for first-time renters: a regular Louisiana (or any U.S. or Canadian) driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Merrydale. No Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special RV endorsement is required by the State of Louisiana for personal RV use, even for larger Class A motorhomes. To book on RVezy, the primary driver generally needs to be 25 or older and verify their ID directly through the platform during checkout, so there's no DMV trip required. Visiting from overseas? Bring an International Driving Permit from your home country along with your original license, and you'll be road-ready to roll out of the Baton Rouge area.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my Merrydale RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Yes. Every RVezy booking in Merrydale includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-10 with peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV and provides financial backup if the unexpected happens, whether that's a flat tire on the Mississippi River Bridge or a fender bump at a campground. You choose your level of coverage at checkout, so you can dial protection up or down based on your trip. Tip: pick a higher-tier plan if you're new to RVing. The small bump in nightly cost is worth the calm when you're maneuvering a 30-foot motorhome.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Merrydale RV trip?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every Merrydale RV rental, and there's a money-back grace period after booking so you can lock in dates without stress. Refund amounts after that window depend on how far out your trip is. South Louisiana sits in hurricane season from June 1 to November 30, so if a named storm or other major disruption affects your trip, reach out to RVezy support and they'll walk you through your options. Tip: book early for LSU football weekends or Mardi Gras, then relax knowing the cancellation policy is transparent and consistent across the platform.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Merrydale?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rentals in Merrydale are easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter to see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs. Once you're on the road, your pup will love the off-leash Raising Cane's Dog Park near downtown Baton Rouge and the shaded loops at Farr Park, which sits about 10 miles south of Merrydale along the Mississippi levee. Many local campgrounds, including Baton Rouge KOA in Denham Springs, have on-site pet areas. Tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed; many will share their favorite local pet patios and bayou trails.
brec.org/index.cfm/page/1614/n/89Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Merrydale?
Yes, RV delivery in Merrydale is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're nervous about driving a motorhome through Baton Rouge traffic. Many RVezy hosts will deliver and set up your rental directly at Baton Rouge KOA in Denham Springs, Farr Park RV Campground, or your driveway in the Merrydale and Central area. They'll level the rig, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system from the awning to the propane. Delivery fees are typically based on distance, so closer drops cost less. Tip: filter by Delivery on RVezy and message two or three hosts with your campsite address to compare quotes.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Merrydale%2C%20LouisianaHow far can I drive on an RV road trip from Merrydale?
You can cover a lot of ground on an RV road trip from Merrydale because the area sits right at the crossroads of I-10 and I-12. Popular routes include New Orleans (about 80 miles southeast, roughly 90 minutes), Lafayette and Cajun Country (about 55 miles west), the Gulf Coast beaches at Gulf Shores, Alabama (around 200 miles east), and Natchez, Mississippi (about 90 miles north along the Great River Road). Some Merrydale hosts on RVezy offer RV rentals with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for longer trips. Tip: if mileage is capped, ask the host for a custom package; many will bundle extra miles at a discount for multi-night bookings.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Merrydale%2C%20LouisianaWhere are the best campgrounds near Merrydale for an RV trip?
There are great options for RV camping near Merrydale and the surrounding Baton Rouge area. Top picks include Baton Rouge KOA Holiday in Denham Springs (about 15 miles east, with full hookups and a pool), Farr Park RV Campground (about 10 miles south near LSU, with levee bike access and water/electric sites), Tickfaw State Park (about 30 miles east, with boardwalk swamp trails), and Lakeside RV Resort in Livingston (about 25 miles east, on a lake). For a riverside option, Poche Plantation RV Resort along River Road in Convent is a memorable stop. Tip: book Tickfaw State Park sites the moment your dates are firm; weekend spots fill quickly through ReserveLouisiana.
lastateparks.com/parks-historic-sites/tickfaw-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Merrydale?
Spring (mid-February through April) and fall (mid-October through early December) are the sweet spots for a Merrydale RV trip. Daytime highs typically sit in the comfortable 65 to 80°F range, humidity drops, and mosquitoes ease up. Summer is warm and humid, with highs in the low 90s and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. Winters are mild, often in the 50s to 60s by day, making RV camping a year-round option here. Tip: time your trip around the Baton Rouge Blues Festival in spring or LSU home games in the fall, and book your rental at least 6 weeks ahead for peak weekends.
weather.gov/lix/I've never rented an RV before. Is renting in Merrydale beginner-friendly?
Yes. First-time renting an RV in Merrydale is genuinely beginner-friendly because every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, covering the generator, slide-outs, water hookups, propane, and dump procedures. The terrain around Baton Rouge is flat with no mountain passes, and I-10 and I-12 are wide, well-maintained interstates that make highway driving feel manageable. If city traffic worries you, choose a travel trailer or Class B campervan rather than a 30-foot Class A. Tip: book a host who offers delivery to Baton Rouge KOA; they'll set up the rig so you can practice driving on quieter River Road before any longer trips.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Merrydale trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy rental in Merrydale comes with 24/7 roadside assistance included with the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're on I-10 near the Atchafalaya Basin or parked at a campground in St. Francisville. The roadside team handles flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. Your host is also a direct message away for questions about quirks specific to their rig. Tip: save the roadside number and note your RV's VIN before you leave the driveway so you have it handy even if cell service gets spotty out near Tickfaw State Park or the Pearl River swamps.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Merrydale RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Yes, you can drive your Merrydale RV rental into neighboring states like Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, Florida, or Arkansas, which are some of the most popular routes on RVezy. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance terms, so message the host directly before booking if Canada is on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Popular interstate runs from the Baton Rouge area include the Gulf Coast at Gulf Shores, Alabama (about 200 miles), Houston (about 270 miles west), and the Smoky Mountains (about 700 miles northeast). Tip: confirm your route with the host in writing through RVezy messaging.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on my Merrydale RV trip?
Fuel is one of the bigger trip expenses, but it's easy to plan for. Travel trailers towed by a pickup average about 10 to 14 mpg, Class B campervans about 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes about 8 to 12 mpg, and large Class A diesels about 7 to 10 mpg. Louisiana typically has some of the lowest fuel prices in the country, often below the national average. For a 3-night Merrydale RV trip covering 300 miles, expect to spend roughly $90 to $160 on fuel. Tip: fill up at a Costco or Murphy USA in the Baton Rouge area before heading out; prices there usually beat stops along the interstate.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Merrydale?
Earlier is better, but you have flexibility. Louisiana State Parks like Tickfaw and Lake Fausse Pointe accept reservations well in advance through ReserveLouisiana, and prime spring and fall weekends can fill 2 to 3 months out. The Baton Rouge KOA and private parks like Lakeside RV Resort often have weekday availability just days ahead, but LSU football Saturdays, Mardi Gras, and major festival weekends sell out fast. Aim to lock in campgrounds about 6 to 8 weeks before your trip. Tip: book your RVezy rental and your campsite on the same day so your dates line up perfectly and you don't lose either to someone faster.
