Campgrounds and RV parks near Montz, LA

New Orleans is the primary draw. The French Quarter, City Park, Audubon Zoo, and the National WWII Museum are all inside an hour's drive. Several campgrounds, including New Orleans KOA Holiday, offer shuttle service or streetcar-adjacent access so RVers can leave the rig behind. Closer to Montz, the River Road runs along the Mississippi levee past Oak Alley, Laura, Whitney, and Houmas House plantations. Swamp tours launch from nearby Des Allemands and Jean Lafitte, and Bayou Segnette State Park offers a wave pool, boat launch, and fishing for bass, catfish, bream, perch, redfish, and trout in a mix of fresh and saltwater environments. For families, Global Wildlife Center in Folsom runs safari-style tours where visitors feed free-roaming animals from open wagons.

South Louisiana has a humid subtropical climate, and the shoulder seasons are the easiest for RV travel. Mid-February through April and mid-October through November bring mild days, lower humidity, and manageable bug pressure. Spring is peak season around New Orleans events like Mardi Gras, French Quarter Fest, and Jazz Fest, when regional campgrounds fill weeks in advance. Summer is hot, humid, and wet. Afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily from June through August, and heat indices frequently push past 100 degrees. Air conditioning and full hookups become essential. This period also overlaps Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June 1 through November 30 and peaks from mid-August through October. Winter is mild rather than cold. Hard freezes happen only a handful of nights per year, and most parks in the area operate year-round. Cool nights and thinner crowds make December and January reasonable choices for RVers who want plantation tours and city visits without summer's heat.

Sites in this area are generally level and paved or concrete, with full hookups common at private parks and water-plus-electric standard at Bayou Segnette State Park, which also has a dump station and free laundry. Big-rig access is good along the I-10 corridor, though drivers approaching New Orleans KOA Holiday should follow the campground's posted directions rather than GPS, which can route RVs onto restricted streets. Expect humidity, bugs, and wildlife. Mosquito repellent, screened outdoor mats, and a hose-end filter for the region's mineral-heavy water are worth packing. Alligators live in most bayous, canals, and even drainage ditches, so keep pets leashed and children within sight near water. Cell coverage is strong along I-10 but drops off inside state parks and deeper swamp areas. Wi-Fi is offered at most private parks with variable speeds.
