Campgrounds and RV parks near Morgan City, LA

Morgan City sits on the Atchafalaya River in St. Mary Parish, about 86 miles west of New Orleans and 68 miles southeast of Lafayette. The area serves as a practical base for exploring the Atchafalaya Basin, the largest river swamp in the United States, with roughly a million acres of bottomland hardwoods, bayous, and backwater lakes. RV options within a short drive include Cajun Country RV Park and Cypress Lake RV Resort on the west side of town, and Kemper Williams Park St Mary Parish Park in nearby Patterson, a roughly 300-acre parish facility with 44 full-hookup sites and 163 water-and-electric sites spread across shaded and open sections. Hideaway Ponds Recreational Resort and Bayou Black RV Park extend the search radius east toward Gibson and give access to another set of swamp launches and fishing waters. Most parks in the area stay open year-round and cater to big rigs, though seasonal humidity, hurricane risk, and mosquito pressure shape when sites fill and how comfortable the trip will be.

Private parks such as Cajun Country RV Park, Cypress Lake RV Resort, Hideaway Ponds Recreational Resort, and Bayou Black RV Park generally take reservations by phone or through their own websites, and some list on third-party RV booking platforms. Calling ahead is the most reliable option for extended stays and big-rig sites. Kemper Williams Park St Mary Parish Park is managed by St. Mary Parish, and site availability is confirmed through the park directly by phone. For state-park camping, Lake Fausse Pointe State Park to the northwest uses the Louisiana State Parks central reservation system, which accepts bookings up to 13 months in advance and requires reservations at least 48 hours before arrival, with same-week bookings handled by the park. Spring, fall, and festival weekends fill fastest, so book several weeks ahead when possible.
