Campgrounds and RV parks near Napoleonville, LA

Water is the main draw. Lake Verret, Bayou Lafourche, Belle River, and the Pierre Part area support bass and catfish fishing, kayaking, and airboat tours, and several outfitters in nearby Gibson and Houma run swamp tours into the Atchafalaya Basin. History is close at hand. Christ Episcopal Church in Napoleonville, a Gothic Revival church built of Louisiana cypress and consecrated in 1853 by Bishop Leonidas Polk, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Madewood Plantation sits just outside the village along Bayou Lafourche. Day trips are easy: Baton Rouge and New Orleans are each roughly an hour by car, and Lake Fausse Pointe State Park, on the eastern edge of the Atchafalaya Basin near St. Martinville, offers cypress-swamp paddling trails and cabin rentals.

South Louisiana runs on a long, humid warm season and a short, mild winter. Summers are long, hot, and humid, and winters are short and generally mild, with heavy rainfall possible year round. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel, with lower humidity and fewer thunderstorms. Rainfall is heavy in mid-summer, with June through August bringing frequent afternoon thunderstorms. The wettest months in the region are typically June through August, and late fall tends to be drier, which combines with cooler nights to make October and November a favorite for bayou fishing and swamp tours. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity in August and September, and RV travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories. Winter lows typically dip into the 40s Fahrenheit, hard freezes are brief and infrequent, and most private RV parks in the area operate year-round, though state park cabins and campsites near the coast can close temporarily after major storms.

Most private parks near Napoleonville offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, sewer, and Wi-Fi of variable quality. Sites tend to be level gravel or grass pads with mature shade trees, and mosquitoes are common from spring through fall, so screens and repellent are essential. Expect a mix of long-term residents and short-stay travelers at parks in Assumption and surrounding parishes. Amenities vary widely: resort-style properties like Hideaway Ponds Recreational Resort include ponds, cabins, and pools, while smaller parks focus on utility hookups and easy highway access. Roads along Bayou Lafourche are narrow with tight shoulders, so larger rigs should plan routes carefully and avoid backroads after heavy rain. Alligators, snakes, and other wildlife live in the surrounding swamps, and pets should stay leashed at all times.
