Campgrounds and RV parks near North Vacherie, LA

North Vacherie sits on the west bank of the Mississippi River in St. James Parish, roughly midway between New Orleans and Baton Rouge along Louisiana's River Road. The area is best known as the setting for Oak Alley Plantation, a historic site in the community of Vacherie on the west bank of the Mississippi, which makes the region a common overnight base for RV travelers touring plantation country. RV options cluster along the river corridor and the nearby I-10 exits. Poche Plantation RV Resort Cottage lies just across the river in Convent, while Old River RV Park, Laplace Trailer- RV Park, Lamar Dixon Expo Center RV Park, and B and B RV Park spread out along the Airline Highway and Ascension Parish corridors. Most visitors combine plantation touring with day trips into New Orleans, which sits about an hour east. The flat terrain, riverside levee roads, and short drives between attractions make the area straightforward for larger rigs, though bridge crossings of the Mississippi are limited and worth mapping in advance.

Private parks in the area handle their own reservations directly. Poche Plantation RV Resort Cottage takes RV bookings by phone and through its website; Old River RV Park, Laplace Trailer- RV Park, and B and B RV Park are also privately operated and typically require a call or online request rather than a central reservation system. Lamar Dixon Expo Center RV Park in Gonzales is managed by Ascension Parish and shifts availability around scheduled events at the fairgrounds, so it is worth checking the event calendar before locking in dates. Louisiana State Parks in the wider region use a central reservation system that accepts bookings up to thirteen months in advance of the arrival date. For spring plantation-touring weekends and major New Orleans events, reserve early and confirm rig-length limits and hookup type when booking.
