South Louisiana runs on a long, warm season. Spring brings mild temperatures, azaleas, and crawfish boils, and it is widely considered the best window for RV travel in Acadiana. Festival International de Louisiane draws large crowds to downtown Lafayette on the last full weekend of April, and RV sites within a 30-minute radius fill weeks ahead. Summer is hot, humid, and thunderstorm-prone, with heat indices routinely above 100°F. Afternoon storms pop up almost daily from June through September. This period also overlaps with Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June 1 through November 30 and peaks from mid-August into October. RV travelers should track the National Hurricane Center outlook and confirm each park's evacuation policy. Fall cools off gradually and is a strong shoulder season. Winter is mild by North-American standards, with daytime highs often in the 60s, occasional cold snaps, and generally light demand, though Mardi Gras season brings a spike in bookings across the region.

Roads into the private parks are generally flat and paved, and big-rig access is straightforward at Lafayette KOA Holiday, Frog City RV Park, and Poche's RV Park & Fish-N-Camp. Sites are typically level with concrete or gravel pads, full hookups, and 30/50-amp service. Wi-Fi quality varies park to park. Expect humidity, mosquitoes, and love bugs in season. Bring repellent, keep food sealed, and check awnings before afternoon storms. Alligators live in most local waterways, including some park ponds and adjacent bayous, so keep pets leashed near the water.
