Campgrounds and RV parks near Welcome, LA

River Road plantation tours are the headline attraction. Oak Alley, Laura, and Houmas House sit within a short drive, and Poche Plantation itself is a historic property. The Judge Felix Poché Plantation House is a historic house in Convent, built c. 1870 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Outdoor time centers on the water. Old River RV Park offers boat ramps and covered areas along the Amite River, with fishing from the site and boat access down the river to Lake Maurepas. Hideaway Ponds Recreational Resort adds on-site fishing ponds, pools, and family-oriented amenities. Day trips run east to New Orleans for the French Quarter, City Park, and Audubon Zoo, and west to Baton Rouge for LSU, the State Capitol, and the USS Kidd. Gonzales, the self-declared Jambalaya Capital, hosts festivals and events at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center throughout the year.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of Louisiana. Highs sit in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit, humidity is manageable, and festival season, from Mardi Gras through the crawfish months and into the fall fair circuit, brings steady programming to Ascension and St. James parishes. Sites at Poche Plantation RV Resort Cottage and Lamar Dixon Expo Center RV Park book well ahead around large events. Summer is hot, humid, and wet. The region has a humid subtropical climate with high annual precipitation, and summers bring heavy seasonal downpours and afternoon thunderstorms. Atlantic hurricane season overlaps this period, running June through November, so travelers should track National Hurricane Center advisories and confirm park status before arrival. Winter is mild but damp. Freezes are brief when they occur, and area parks including B and B RV Park and Old River RV Park generally operate year-round. Snowbirds fill sites through the coolest months, so long-stay availability tightens in that window.

Sites in this stretch of River Road are generally big-rig friendly and full-hookup. Poche Plantation RV Resort Cottage lists 85 RV spaces with full hookups, 30/50-amp electric, water, cable TV, laundry, and a pool. Old River RV Park offers 20 full-hookup back-in sites on the Amite River, with 18 50-amp sites and two 30-amp sites, free Wi-Fi, and a boat ramp. Roads are flat and easy to navigate, though some River Road approaches are narrow with tight turns near levees. Expect industrial neighbors: this stretch is part of the petrochemical corridor, and refineries and terminals share the landscape with plantations. Mosquitoes are active from spring through fall, so screens and repellent help. Cell coverage is generally reliable near I-10 and along LA-44.
