Campgrounds and RV parks near Brownville Junction, ME

Brownville Junction sits in Piscataquis County at the southern edge of Maine's North Woods, within easy reach of the KI Jo-Mary Multiple Use Forest, Sebec Lake, and the southern approach to the 100-Mile Wilderness. The area blends state-run campgrounds, working-forest gate-access sites, and a few private RV parks, so trip planners can mix comfort and remoteness on the same itinerary. The closest developed option is Peaks-Kenny State Park on Sebec Lake in Dover-Foxcroft, which contains nearly 900 acres of forest, roughly 10 miles of hiking trails, a 56-site campground, and a day-use area with a sand beach. Further north, Jo-mary Lake Campground and Big Moose Inn Cabins and Campground serve travelers heading toward Millinocket and Baxter State Park, while Wilderness Edge Campground offers a base near the Golden Road corridor. For a rustic experience, Seboeis Public Reserved Lands provides dispersed sites in a state-managed forest unit. RV renters should note that road access varies widely, from paved state park entrances to gravel logging roads with checkpoint gates.

State park sites go fast and open on a fixed date. On the first workday in February, the Maine State Park Reservations Office begins accepting campsite reservations for dates between May 22 and September 10. Reservations must be made at least two business days in advance, with a two-night minimum for reserved sites and a 14-day maximum stay during July and August. Bookings can be placed by phone or through the campwithme.com portal. After mid-September, remaining state park sites become first-come, first-served through the closing date. Private operators such as Big Moose Inn Cabins and Campground, Wilderness Edge Campground, and Jo-mary Lake Campground take reservations directly through their own websites, often months ahead for peak weekends. Dispersed sites at Seboeis Public Reserved Lands are typically first-come, first-served.
