Campgrounds and RV parks near Ackerman, MS

Ackerman sits in Choctaw County in east-central Mississippi, roughly halfway between Jackson and Tupelo and close to the midpoint of the Natchez Trace Parkway. The town is small, but it draws RV travelers because it sits at the intersection of a national parkway, a state forest, and several small reservoir campgrounds within an easy drive. The closest RV option in town is Diane Jackson Memorial RV Park in Ackerman. Just outside town, Jeff Busby Campground at milepost 193.1, midway on the Parkway, includes an 18-site campground, picnic tables, restrooms, trails, exhibits and an overlook atop Little Mountain, with sites on a first come first served basis and no reservations. Lake Tiak-O-Khata Campground sits about twenty minutes south near Louisville, and Whites Creek Lake Campground lies in the Tombigbee National Forest to the northeast. John W Starr Forest RV Park Campground rounds out the nearby options, set in the Mississippi State University forest south of town. Together these campgrounds give RV renters a mix of primitive parkway sites, small-lake state and forest campgrounds, and full-hookup private parks.

Reservation systems vary by campground type. Jeff Busby Campground does not offer reservations through Recreation.gov. The three primitive Parkway campgrounds are free and available on a first come, first serve basis, camping is basic, and there is no electricity, showers, or dump stations on site, and there is a 14 day stay limit. Arrive by early afternoon on spring and fall weekends to secure a site. Private parks such as Diane Jackson Memorial RV Park and Lake Tiak-O-Khata Campground take direct reservations by phone or through the property's own booking page. National forest and small reservoir campgrounds in the area generally accept phone or on-site registration, with a portion of sites first come, first served. Book full-hookup private sites four to eight weeks ahead for spring and fall weekends, and further out for holiday periods.
