Campgrounds and RV parks near Carthage, MS

Carthage sits in Leake County in central Mississippi, roughly an hour northeast of Jackson. The area is rural and wooded, with pine forests, small lakes, and the Pearl River corridor shaping most of the local camping options. The region has a humid subtropical climate with no dry season, so RV sites stay usable across most of the year. RV travelers typically choose between river and reservoir sites managed by public agencies and privately run RV parks. Low Head Dam - PRVWSD sits along the Pearl River on Pearl River Valley Water Supply District land, while Frog Level RV Park and Green Tree RV and Recreational Park cater to travelers who want full hookups at private parks in the wider region. Burnside Lake Park adds a smaller lake-focused option. For a full state park experience, RO Hannah - Roosevelt State Park lies south of Carthage near Morton and offers developed campsites within a larger day-use park on Shadow Lake. Together these five locations cover the main styles of stay: river, private RV park, and state park.

Roosevelt State Park sites, including the RO Hannah loop, are reserved through the Mississippi State Parks reservation system at reserve.mdwfp.com, or by phone with the park office. The online system accepts bookings well in advance, and holiday weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day fill fastest. Low Head Dam - PRVWSD is managed by the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, which now offers online reservations for its reservoir-area campgrounds through therez.ms.gov rather than a national portal. A reservation is required before choosing a site. Frog Level RV Park, Green Tree RV and Recreational Park, and Burnside Lake Park are privately or locally managed. Reservations are typically made by phone or through the operator's own site, and weekly and monthly stays are often available. Booking a week or two ahead is usually enough outside of major holidays.
