Campgrounds and RV parks near Centreville, MS

The main outdoor draw in the area is Clark Creek Natural Area near Woodville, about a 30-minute drive west of Centreville. The preserve covers roughly 700 acres and features about 50 waterfalls, ranging from 10 to more than 30 feet in height. Use is limited to foot traffic, camping is not permitted inside the natural area, and hikers are required to stay on established trails. Sturdy hiking shoes, water, and a downloaded trail map are recommended, as the loess-bluff terrain is steep and can be slippery. North of town, the Homochitto National Forest offers hiking, fishing, and paddling. Clear Springs Recreation Area has a spring-fed lake, campground, picnic grounds, and swim area, with nearby Richardson Creek mountain-bike trails known as some of the best singletrack in Mississippi. The forest also contains Okhissa Lake, an approximately 1,100-acre lake co-designed by Bill Dance and known for its depth and bass fishing. Natchez, with its riverfront and antebellum district, is a straightforward day trip up US 61.

Southwest Mississippi has a humid subtropical climate. Winters are relatively mild, summers are hot, and precipitation falls year-round. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with daytime highs in the 70s and lower humidity than midsummer. Wildflowers, migrating birds, and higher waterfall flow at Clark Creek make March through May a popular stretch. Summer brings heat, high humidity, and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. August is typically the wettest month in the nearby Natchez area, while June is the driest. Biting insects are active, and shaded, hookup sites with reliable power for air conditioning are worth prioritizing. Fall is drier and cooler, with October and November among the most pleasant months for hiking and camping. Winter camping is workable for cold-tolerant travelers: freezes occur but hard, extended cold snaps are uncommon. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, and remnants of Gulf storms can produce heavy rain and wind well inland, so monitor National Hurricane Center forecasts during that period.

Centreville is a small town, so expect rural highways, limited big-box shopping, and a slower pace. Stock up on groceries, propane, and RV supplies in Natchez, McComb, or Baton Rouge before arriving if planning a longer stay. Cell coverage is generally usable along US 61 and MS 24 but can drop out on back roads and inside the forest. Sites at nearby parks are typically gravel or grass with pull-through and back-in options, 30 and 50 amp service at most locations, and dump stations on site at many. Tree cover is common, which helps with summer heat but can complicate satellite reception and slide-out clearance. Wildlife includes deer, armadillos, and, in the surrounding forest, occasional black bears. Clark Creek Natural Area is also home to venomous snakes, so watch footing on trails and creek crossings. Ticks and mosquitoes are active from spring through fall; pack repellent.
