Camping near Kosciusko, Mississippi
Kosciusko sits in Attala County along the Natchez Trace Parkway, roughly halfway between Jackson and Tupelo. It is the county seat of Attala County and serves as a practical base for RV travelers exploring central Mississippi's lakes, hardwood forests, and Trace pullouts.
Campground options within an hour's drive cover several styles. Vaiden Campground, LLC. and Lake Tiak-O-Khata Campground offer private-park stays with hookups, while Holmes County State Park has two fishing lakes, a nature trail, amphitheater, skating rink, archery range, and offers tent camping, 12 cabin units and 28 camping pads. Low Head Dam - PRVWSD sits on the upper Pearl River within the Ross Barnett Reservoir system managed by the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District.
For no-frills overnights along the Parkway itself, Jeff Busby Campground - Natchez Trace Parkway is located at milepost 193.1 and offers a small campground with picnic tables, restrooms, short trails, and an overlook atop Little Mountain. Sites are first come, first served with no reservations. That mix lets renters choose between hookups, lake access, or free primitive stays.
Things to do around Kosciusko
Fishing and paddling anchor most trips. English Lake and Odum Lake are stocked with Bluegill, Crappie, Catfish, and Largemouth Bass at Holmes County State Park, and boat rentals are available for convenience. Lake Tiak-O-Khata Campground adds a swim beach popular with families traveling with kids.
The Natchez Trace Parkway runs directly through Kosciusko and provides low-speed, no-commercial-traffic driving with frequent pullouts, historic markers, and short trails. Jeff Busby Campground - Natchez Trace Parkway includes an overlook atop Little Mountain and connecting foot trails.
On the water side, Low Head Dam - PRVWSD gives access to the upper Pearl River for bank fishing and paddling, and the broader Ross Barnett Reservoir south of the area offers open-water boating and additional launches.

Central Mississippi has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild, wet winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV camping, with warm days and cooler nights. Campgrounds along the Natchez Trace are typically busiest during spring and fall, especially around holiday weekends, so arrive early at first-come, first-served sites like Jeff Busby.
Summer brings heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms. Full-hookup parks with electric service, such as Lake Tiak-O-Khata Campground and Vaiden Campground, LLC., are the practical choice when air conditioning matters. Shaded sites at Jeff Busby help but offer no hookups.
Winter is short and wet. Precipitation stays high year-round, and some state park facilities operate on reduced schedules. Confirm bathhouse and dump-station status directly with the park before arrival, especially for Holmes County State Park, which has undergone lake and facility work in recent years.
How to book campsites near Kosciusko
Reservation systems vary by operator. Holmes County State Park is managed by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks and takes reservations through the state park booking channel or by phone. Lake Tiak-O-Khata Campground and Vaiden Campground, LLC. are private parks that book directly through the operator; call ahead for guaranteed spots.
Low Head Dam - PRVWSD is part of the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District campground system, which sets its own rules and rates for all reservoir campgrounds and takes reservations through the district.
Jeff Busby Campground - Natchez Trace Parkway works differently. It does not accept reservations through Recreation.gov and there is no fee for camping. Arrive by early afternoon on spring and fall weekends to secure a site.
What to expect on the ground
Site types range widely. Lake Tiak-O-Khata Campground features full-hookup sites that are big-rig friendly, with many pull-through accessible. The 28 sites available for RV camping at Holmes County State Park feature picnic tables and grills, water and electrical hook-ups, and a central sewage dumping station. A bath-house with hot showers and a coin-operated laundry are located in the developed camping area.
Expect basic conditions along the Parkway. At Jeff Busby, both RVs and tents are welcome, but there are no water or electric hookups, and there is a modern restroom without showers. A 14-day stay limit applies.
Cell coverage is uneven in the surrounding hardwood forest, insects and ticks are active from spring through fall, and shaded sites can stay damp after storms. Bring leveling blocks for rural private parks.

mdwfp.com/parks-destinations/state-parks/holmes-county/When is the best time to visit Kosciusko in an RV?
Honestly, spring and fall are magic here. The sweet spot for an RV rental Mississippi adventure around Kosciusko is mid-March through May, when daytime highs run 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit and the dogwoods and azaleas explode along the Natchez Trace Parkway. Late September through early November is the second prime window, with crisp mornings, fewer bugs, and stunning hardwood color around milepost 159. Summer (June to August) is hot and humid with highs in the low 90s, but campgrounds with hookups make it comfortable thanks to RV air conditioning. The Natchez Trace Parkway (accessed at exit 160) has a 50 mph speed limit, no commercial trucks, and gentle grades, making it the most RV-friendly road in Mississippi. Watch for occasional deer at dawn and dusk, and slow down during summer thunderstorms, which can roll through quickly between June and August.
