Campgrounds near Maben, Mississippi
Maben is a small town in Oktibbeha and Webster counties in north-central Mississippi, positioned between Starkville and the Natchez Trace Parkway. RV travelers use it as a base for exploring the Tombigbee National Forest, the Trace, and Mississippi State University in nearby Starkville. The terrain is rolling hills with pine and hardwood forest, and campgrounds in the area lean toward small, quiet parks rather than large resorts.
Options within a short drive cover several styles of camping. Starkville KOA Holiday sits on Oktibbeha County Lake with full-hookup 50/30-amp RV sites and cabins. Whites Creek Lake Campground in Eupora offers 11 full-hookup RV sites next to the water, and Jeff Busby Campground on the Natchez Trace Parkway provides free primitive sites for travelers moving along the Trace. Diane Jackson Memorial RV Park and The Pines Motorhome Park and RV Park round out the local choices with straightforward hookup sites.
Most parks in this area are open year-round, and reservations are only required at the private campgrounds.
Things to do near Maben
The Natchez Trace Parkway is the main regional draw. At milepost 193.1, Jeff Busby Park includes a trail system and an overlook atop Little Mountain, one of the higher points in Mississippi. Cyclists and hikers use the Parkway itself as a low-traffic route through the woods.
Water-based recreation centers on the small lakes around Starkville and Eupora. Whites Creek Lake Campground has a boat launch, and the 300-acre lake supports fishing and paddling, and the Tombigbee National Forest offers additional lakes and forest roads for day trips. Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field in Starkville is home to Mississippi State University football, and campus art galleries provide an indoor option on rainy days.
Starkville has grocery stores, restaurants, and fuel, which makes it the practical supply stop for anyone camping in the Maben area.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel in this part of Mississippi. Daytime highs sit in the seventies for much of March through May and again from late September into November, and the hardwoods along the Natchez Trace put on a fall color display. These are also the busiest periods on the Parkway: the National Park Service notes that campgrounds are typically busiest during the spring and fall, especially during holiday weekends.
Summer is hot and humid, with highs commonly in the low nineties and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Shaded sites are worth seeking out, and hookups with 50-amp service make air conditioning easier to run through the afternoon.
Winters are mild but wet, with December bringing the highest monthly precipitation of the year. Snow is rare, and most local campgrounds stay open, though the Jeff Busby campground can close during severe weather. Trip planners should check park status before arriving in January or February.
How to book
Booking rules vary by operator. Starkville KOA Holiday takes reservations through the KOA website and offers a KOA Rewards discount. Whites Creek Lake Campground routes all reservations through Campspot, with no other booking channel accepted.
Jeff Busby Campground on the Natchez Trace Parkway does not accept reservations. All sites are first come, first served, there is no fee, and there is a 14-day stay limit, and the campground does not offer reservations through Recreation.gov. Arriving early on Friday and Saturday during spring and fall is the practical way to secure a site.
Diane Jackson Memorial RV Park and The Pines Motorhome Park and RV Park are small private parks; calling ahead is the reliable way to confirm availability.
What to expect on arrival
Expect a mix of hookup styles. Starkville KOA sites are full hookup with 50/30-amp service including water, sewer, and basic cable TV, with level pads and standard bathhouses. Whites Creek Lake Campground has water, electric, and sewer at all 11 sites, most back-in, plus one pull-through and one lakeview site.
Jeff Busby Campground is primitive. Facilities include picnic tables, restrooms, and drinking water, but no water or electric hookups and no showers. Generators can be used until quiet hours begin at 10 PM.
Cell coverage is uneven along the Natchez Trace corridor and phone signal at the campground can be weak. In-town parks near Starkville have stronger signal. Google Maps has sometimes directed visitors to incorrect locations, so following the posted directions from each park is worth the extra step.
