Campgrounds and RV parks near Macon, MS

Macon sits along the Noxubee River in east-central Mississippi, serving as the county seat of Noxubee County and a practical base for RV travelers moving along the US 45 corridor between Meridian and Columbus. The town keeps a small-town footprint with basic services, fuel, and local dining, and it puts travelers within reach of larger regional hubs including Starkville, home of Mississippi State University, and the Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge. RV options close to Macon lean toward quiet, hookup-focused parks rather than resort-style destinations. Mill Creek RV Park and Country Dogs RV Park handle overnight and extended stays in the area, while Mississippi Horse Park, Indian Mound Campground Resort, and John W Starr Forest RV Park Campground extend the choices north toward Starkville and the Mississippi State University research forest. The surrounding landscape is bottomland hardwood and pine forest with two sizeable lakes on the Noxubee refuge, Bluff Lake at roughly 800 acres and Loakfoma Lake at roughly 400 acres, plus green-tree reservoirs and small impoundments that draw waterfowl, alligators, and a wide range of resident and migratory bird species.

Private RV parks near Macon, including Mill Creek RV Park, Country Dogs RV Park, and Indian Mound Campground Resort, are booked directly by phone or through each park's own website or third-party listing platforms. Sites are limited at the smaller lots, so calling ahead is the reliable approach, especially for big rigs needing 50-amp service. Mississippi Horse Park operates 133 full-hookup RV sites tied to its event calendar. Availability is strongest when no show is running, and RV spots should be reserved in advance, particularly around Mississippi State University football weekends when shuttle service to games is offered. John W Starr Forest RV Park Campground is operated in coordination with Mississippi State University's College of Forest Resources and has only around 13 sites, so early phone contact is recommended. The Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge itself does not offer campground reservations; it is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for day use, hunting, and fishing under posted regulations.
