Campgrounds and RV parks near Mathiston, MS

Mathiston sits in east-central Mississippi's Webster County, within easy reach of the Natchez Trace Parkway and the Tombigbee National Forest. RV renters use it as a base for lake fishing, forest hiking, and Mississippi State University events in nearby Starkville. The terrain is gently rolling pine and hardwood forest, and most nearby campgrounds cluster around small lakes or along the Trace. The closest options range from primitive federal sites to full-hookup private parks. Jeff Busby Campground is one of three free, primitive campgrounds run by the National Park Service along the 444-mile Natchez Trace Parkway, with 18 first-come sites and no hookups. Whites Creek Lake Campground sits in nearby Eupora, offering 20/30/50 amp service, water, and sewer on a 300-acre lake with boating, kayaking, and crappie fishing. For renters wanting resort-style amenities, Starkville KOA Holiday sits west of the Mississippi State University campus. Diane Jackson Memorial RV Park and John W Starr Forest RV Park Campground round out the closer options for full-hookup stays.

Reservation systems vary by operator. Whites Creek Lake Campground takes all reservations through Campspot with no exceptions, and the booking site also handles daily boat ramp passes. Starkville KOA Holiday books through the KOA site or by phone, and cabins, RV sites, and tent sites can each be reserved separately. Federal sites work differently. Choctaw Lake in the Tombigbee National Forest books on Recreation.gov up to six months in advance. Jeff Busby, like all Natchez Trace Parkway campgrounds run by the National Park Service, is first come, first served with no reservations. For holiday weekends, football Saturdays in Starkville, and peak fall foliage, book private parks several weeks out and plan to arrive at first-come sites by early afternoon.
