Campgrounds and RV parks near Angola on the Lake, NY

Lake Erie is the dominant draw. Evangola State Park's arc-shaped natural sand beach is the local swimming spot, and the park also has picnic pavilions, disc golf, tennis and basketball courts, and hiking trails through wooded shoreline. Anglers work the lake from shore and by boat for smallmouth bass, walleye, and perch, and Cattaraugus Creek to the south is a well-known steelhead run in the shoulder seasons. Beyond the immediate lakeshore, RVers use Angola on the Lake as a base for day trips to downtown Buffalo, the Seneca Nation communities near Irving, and Niagara Falls about an hour north. Across the border, the Sherkston and Fort Erie areas add quarry swimming, water parks, and Niagara wine country to the itinerary.

The camping calendar here is tied tightly to Lake Erie's weather. Evangola State Park's campground operates from mid-May through Columbus Day in October, with swimming staffed by lifeguards through Labor Day. Private parks on both sides of the border generally run a similar mid-May to mid-October window, and Sun Retreats Sherkston Shores and Windmill Point Park are typically open from about May 1 to October 31. July and August are peak, with warm lake breezes, long daylight hours, and holiday weekends filling well in advance. June and September are quieter shoulder months with cooler nights and better site availability, and September often brings the region's clearest weather. Late fall through early spring is essentially closed for tent and RV camping: campgrounds shut down, Lake Erie ice can linger into mid-April, and Buffalo-area lake-effect snow makes the region unsuitable for casual winter RV travel. Day-use areas at Evangola stay open year-round for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.

Evangola State Park has three camping loops with a mix of 30-amp, 50-amp, and non-electric tent sites, plus six yurts and one cabin. The campground has showers, flush toilets, and a dump station, but individual sites do not have water or sewer hookups. Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., and a maximum stay of 14 continuous nights applies. Pets are allowed on campsites but not in cabins or yurts. Private resorts on the Canadian side are more amenity-heavy. Sun Retreats Sherkston Shores offers full-hookup RV sites on 560 acres with beaches, a quarry, water park, and mini-golf, while Windmill Point Park has 30-amp electric, water, and a dump station along with its 12-acre spring-fed quarry. Expect classic Lake Erie conditions: sunny beach days, cooler evenings, and the occasional fast-moving thunderstorm off the lake.
