Campgrounds and RV parks near North Boston, NY

Lake Erie is the main draw for warm-weather activity. The major attraction at Evangola State Park is the beautiful natural sand beach located on the shore of Lake Erie, with scenic cliffs of Angola shale lining the park shore near the three campground loops. Swimming, fishing, and shoreline walks are standard summer routines, and the park also has a nature center, disc golf, and picnic areas suitable for family days. Inland, the terrain shifts to forested hills and trout streams. Allegany features an interesting array of geological formations, including a group of ancient bedrock formations known as Thunder Rocks and a cluster of grottoes called Bear Caves, one of the park's most popular hiking destinations. Winter visitors turn to cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling on marked trail networks across the region.

The camping season in this corner of New York is shaped by lake-effect weather and the state park calendar. At Evangola State Park, the camping season runs from mid May to Columbus Day, and campsites at Allegany are usually open from late May until the last weekend in October. Private campgrounds often open a few weeks earlier and close a few weeks later, depending on conditions. Summer is peak season. Peak season at Allegany runs from the end of June to the end of August, and during this time cabins and cottages require a 7 or 14-night minimum stay. Families targeting the Lake Erie beaches should plan for July and August warmth balanced against high demand. Late spring and early fall are quieter, with cooler nights and thinner crowds, and Southern Tier foliage typically peaks in early to mid October. Winter weather in the region is dominated by heavy lake-effect snow. First measurable snows can be expected in mid to late November, but ground cover is sporadic until mid-December, and many of Buffalo's large snowstorms occur in late November to early December. Most tent and RV campgrounds close for the season, but the cottages and some cabins at Allegany are open year-round for cold-weather trips.

State park campgrounds in this region are generally family-oriented, with paved or gravel loops, water spigots, restrooms with showers, and dump stations. At Evangola, two loops accommodate RVs up to 40 feet with electric hookups, one offering 30-amp service and another providing 50-amp pedestals, so specify the service you need when booking. Sites vary in tree cover and privacy, and pull-through spots are limited, so review site maps before reserving a larger RV. Quiet hours are from 10 PM to 8 AM and are strictly enforced, and all patrons must be 21 to possess or consume alcohol. At Allegany, campers should be advised they are in bear country and should not leave food, garbage, coolers, or other containers unattended as they can attract bears. Cell coverage is inconsistent inside larger parks, so download maps and reservation confirmations before arrival.
