Campgrounds and RV parks near Mulberry, NC

Mulberry is a census-designated place in Wilkes County, North Carolina, sitting where the Blue Ridge foothills level off into the Piedmont. Mulberry Creek runs through the community, and the area is heavily forested with cattle farms and small housing developments along the valley floor. RV travelers use Mulberry as a base for two very different kinds of camping: private full-hookup parks in the valleys near Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro, and higher-elevation National Park Service sites along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Close-in options include VFW Campground, Moravian Falls Family Campground and Cabin Rentals, Roaring River Vineyards, and Sandy Creek Family Campground, all within a short drive of town. For a mountain trip, Doughton Park Campground - Blue Ridge Parkway National Park sits at higher elevation to the northwest. Rolling ridgetop meadows and steep mountainsides characterize the 7,000-acre Doughton Park, with an elevation near 3,688 feet. The temperature difference is real and matters when planning a summer trip.

Doughton Park Campground uses a split system. Select campsites can be reserved up to six months in advance online at Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777, and the remainder are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Availability of first-come, first-served sites cannot be tracked through Recreation.gov, and those sites must be booked in person at the campground kiosk. Stone Mountain State Park uses the North Carolina State Parks reservation system through ReserveAmerica, with sites available for today and up to six months in advance. Private campgrounds such as VFW Campground, Moravian Falls Family Campground and Cabin Rentals, Roaring River Vineyards, and Sandy Creek Family Campground book directly with the operator by phone or website; MerleFest week in late April fills months out.
