Campgrounds and RV parks near Klamath Falls, OR

Crater Lake is the headline trip. The south entrance off Highway 62 is open year-round, and Rim Drive typically opens between late June and mid-July depending on snow. Day-trip itineraries from Klamath Falls usually combine the rim with Annie Creek, a stop at Fort Klamath, and a return down Highway 97. Closer to town, the OC&E Woods Line State Trail follows a 109-mile rail corridor between Klamath Falls and Bly, with the first several miles paved for walking and cycling. The Klamath Basin's wildlife refuges draw birders during spring and fall migrations, with bald eagle, waterfowl, and raptor viewing. Lake of the Woods, west on Highway 140, offers swimming, paddling, and fishing. Lava Beds National Monument to the south features cave tours through lava tubes, and Upper Klamath Lake provides boating and trout fishing within minutes of downtown.

Crater Lake is a summer destination at heart. July and August bring the busiest gates and the most reliable rim access, while September combines smaller crowds with generally stable weather. Mazama Campground inside the park typically opens in mid-June and closes in late September, with exact dates set by snow level and conditions on the ground. Spring is short in the high country. Lower-elevation Klamath Falls campgrounds open earlier than the mountain forest sites, many of which run from late May through September. Wildflowers and migratory birds peak in April and May, and runoff keeps rivers high. Winters are cold and snowy at elevation. Klamath Falls itself receives roughly 37 inches of snow a year but averages close to 290 days of sunshine, so RV travel through town remains workable. Sno-parks in the surrounding Cascades support cross-country skiing and snowshoeing once snowpack builds, while most forest and park campgrounds stay closed until late spring.

Elevation drives most of the experience. Klamath Falls sits above 4,000 feet, so nights run cool even in midsummer and afternoon thunderstorms are possible on the Cascade slopes. Pack layers, and expect a noticeable swing between daytime highs and overnight lows. In-town RV parks offer hookups, paved pads, laundry, and Wi-Fi, with easy access to groceries and fuel. Keno Camp provides showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and a boat ramp but no individual hookups. Forest Service sites are more rustic, with vault toilets, no hookups, and limited or no cell coverage common west toward Lake of the Woods. Wildlife is part of the deal. Bears are present in the Cascades, so food storage rules apply at backcountry and forest campgrounds. Mosquitoes can be heavy near wetlands and lakes from late spring into early summer.
