Campgrounds and RV parks near Newton, TX

Newton sits in the Piney Woods of deep East Texas, roughly midway between two of the state's largest lakes: Sam Rayburn Reservoir to the west and Toledo Bend Reservoir along the Louisiana line to the east. Both lakes anchor most of the RV camping in the region, with additional private parks scattered along US 190 and US 96. Sam Rayburn Reservoir covers about 114,500 surface acres at conservation pool, is the largest lake wholly within Texas, and is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District. It is surrounded by the Angelina and Sabine National Forests. Toledo Bend, with a conservation surface area of roughly 181,600 acres, is the largest man-made body of water in the South, and its dam sits in the northeast corner of Newton County, north of Burkeville, Texas. RV travelers have a mix to choose from. Whispering Creek RV Park and Motel and Country Club Park RV Resort serve travelers looking for full hookups closer to town, while Rayburn RV Hideout, Paradise Point RV Marina, and Sam Rayburn Marina Resort put boaters and anglers close to the water.

Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Sam Rayburn Reservoir are reserved through Recreation.gov. The federal booking window opens six months in advance on a rolling daily basis at 10 a.m. Eastern Time, and popular weekends can sell out within minutes of release.
