Campgrounds and RV parks near Sour Lake, TX

Sour Lake sits in Hardin County in southeast Texas, roughly 20 miles west of Beaumont and inside the Big Thicket region. The town borders the Lance Rosier Unit of Big Thicket National Preserve, which is located in the triangle of land between Kountze, Saratoga, and Sour Lake, making it a practical base for RV travelers who want quick access to preserve trails plus full-hookup parks along the I-10 corridor. Developed RV sites are limited within Sour Lake itself, so most travelers stage at nearby parks. Hidden Lake RV Resort, Gulf Coast RV Resort, and Mobile Manor R.V. Park and Parts serve travelers wanting hookups, laundry, and paved pads. For a state-park experience with electric and water sites, Hilltop at Village Creek State Park is the closest option to the northeast. Backcountry campers can use the Lance Rosier Unit for dispersed tent camping under a free National Park Service permit, while the preserve itself does not offer developed RV sites. Most RV travelers combine a hookup park with day trips into the preserve.

Village Creek State Park sites, including Hilltop, are reserved through the Texas State Parks system. Most overnight camping reservations may be made up to five months in advance, and the park often reaches capacity, so booking early is recommended for both camping and day use. Call the park directly for site-specific questions. For Big Thicket backcountry camping at the Lance Rosier Unit, permits are free. Pick up the permit at the visitor center at 6102 FM 420, Kountze, TX. No reservation is required, and permits can be issued the same day as the trip or in advance if needed. Hidden Lake RV Resort, Gulf Coast RV Resort, and Mobile Manor R.V. Park and Parts are private parks. Book directly with each operator by phone or website, and confirm rig length limits and hookup type before arrival.
