Campgrounds and RV parks near Woodville, TX

Water and forest activities dominate. At Martin Dies, Jr. State Park, campers can paddle the Neches and Angelina rivers, walk or bike the trails, swim, and fish B.A. Steinhagen Reservoir. Paddling routes cross sloughs, the rivers, and the lake, and hiking trails run through the woods and along the water. Birders can look for egrets, herons, anhinga, swallow-tailed kites, and pileated woodpeckers, and bald eagles are seen around the lake in summer. South of Woodville, Big Thicket National Preserve offers about 40 miles of trails and waterways through nine ecosystems, plus canoeing, kayaking, and plentiful bird-watching. The main corridor through the Big Thicket is US 69/287 between Beaumont and Woodville, with the visitor center at 6102 FM 420 in Kountze, about 7 miles north of town. Ranger-led programs, paddling tours, and a nature center round out the options.

The East Texas climate is humid subtropical. Summers are long, hot, and humid, and winters are short and mild, with rainfall spread across the year. August is typically the warmest month, with average highs in the mid-90s Fahrenheit, and January is the coolest, with lows in the low 40s. Mosquitoes are a real planning factor from spring through early fall, so screened shelters and screened windows help. Hunting season shapes access to backcountry areas. Camping areas at Big Thicket National Preserve vary by season. In spring and summer, campers can use most of the preserve. In fall and winter, during hunting season from October 1 to February 28, camping is limited to areas that do not allow hunting, such as the Woodlands Trail area in the Big Sandy Creek Unit and sandbars along the Neches River. Current projects can also affect site choice at Martin Dies, Jr. State Park. Portions of the Hen House Ridge unit have been under renovation, with restrooms in the 100 and 200 loops closed during construction, and the Hen House boat ramp has been closed for repairs. Check park alerts before booking.

Park headquarters and the park store are open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed daily from noon to 1:15 p.m., and the park gates remain open at all times except during emergencies or unit closures. Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Pets are allowed in all areas of the park but not inside buildings, cabins, shelters, restrooms, or offices. Private parks near town lean toward full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi at properties like Sunset RV Park and Cabins and Indian Springs Camp and RV Park, with live-music weekends at Triple Creek RV Music Park.
