Campgrounds and RV parks near Belview, VA

The New River is the anchor activity for the area. Tubing, kayaking, and smallmouth bass fishing are all common launches from campgrounds along the water, including Sportsman RV Campground, New River Junction Campground, and Eggleston Springs Campground. The New River Trail, a rail-to-trail conversion, runs for miles and is friendly to bikes and walkers of all ages. Inland, the Jefferson National Forest offers hiking on the Appalachian Trail with well-known viewpoints such as Dragon's Tooth and Tinker Cliffs, both within reach of Dixie Caverns Campground. Families staying at Dixie Caverns Campground can also tour the on-site caverns. The site features a 45 to 50 minute guided tour showcasing limestone formations, including stalactites, stalagmites, and flowstones, and the temperature inside stays a consistent 55 degrees year-round.

Peak camping season in the New River Valley runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. River flows are generally warm enough for tubing and swimming from June through August, and riverside sites at Sportsman RV Campground, New River Junction Campground, and Eggleston Springs Campground book up on weekends. Weekday reservations are usually easier to secure than Friday and Saturday nights. Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with milder temperatures and lower demand. Fall foliage in the surrounding Blue Ridge peaks in mid to late October and pulls a second wave of visitors, especially on weekends aligned with Virginia Tech home football games in nearby Blacksburg. Book ahead for those weekends. Winter operations vary. Many river-focused campgrounds close or reduce services once temperatures drop, while Dixie Caverns offers year-round camping and tours in Salem, Virginia, with cavern tours running approximately 45 to 50 minutes, making it one of the few reliable cold-weather options in the area. Confirm winter hookup availability directly with each park before arrival.

Terrain around Belview is rolling, with campgrounds either tucked along the New River or elevated in the surrounding hills. River-adjacent sites tend to be flatter and grassy, while inland parks can involve tighter approach roads. Drivers of larger Class A motorhomes should map their route in advance and avoid narrow county roads when possible. Site spacing varies. Dixie Caverns Campground has pull-through full hookup sites, 30- and 50-amp service, and can accommodate big rigs, but the property sits close to Interstate 81, so highway noise is noticeable. Riverside parks tend to be quieter but may have limited cell coverage. Expect black bears in the region. Store food inside the RV or in bear-resistant containers, and check with each campground about local wildlife guidance at check-in.
