Campgrounds near Bluefield
Bluefield sits at roughly 2,600 feet in the southern Appalachians, straddling the Virginia-West Virginia line and giving RV travelers quick access to state parks, off-road trail systems, and the New River region. Interstate 77 runs directly through the area, which puts most nearby campgrounds within a 15 to 45 minute drive of downtown.
Options range from full-hookup private resorts to rustic state park loops. Brushcreek Falls RV Resort in Princeton is a family-oriented park with pull-through and back-in sites and typical resort amenities. Mash Fork Campground at Camp Creek State Park offers a mix of full-hookup, water-and-electric, and electric-only sites inside a park and forest of nearly 6,000 acres. ATV-focused travelers head to Ashland Resort and Riverfront ATV Resort, both tied into the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System.
Deer Trail Park and Campground inc. rounds out the closer-in options for travelers looking for a quieter base near town. Elevation keeps summer temperatures noticeably cooler than the surrounding lowlands.
Things to do around Bluefield
Camp Creek State Park is the primary outdoor draw. Campbell Falls and Mash Falls are the headline attractions, and the park contains roughly 35 miles of trails plus about seven miles of trout streams for hikers, bikers, horseback riders, and anglers.
Off-highway riders have direct access to the Hatfield-McCoy Trails, a regional network open to ATVs, UTVs, and dirt bikes with trails rated from family-friendly green to advanced black and single-track. Ashland Resort sits on the Indian Ridge Trail System and connects to the Pocahontas and Pinnacle Creek systems.
Day trips reach Pipestem Resort State Park, Winterplace Ski Resort, and the New River Gorge, all within roughly an hour by RV. Historic Bramwell and small coal-town main streets add rainy-day options.

Late spring through early fall is the core RV season. Camp Creek State Park's Mash Fork Campground is open year-round, but the office is closed December through February, and reservation service on weekends runs from the Thursday before Memorial Day through the day after Labor Day. Weekend reservations in that window require a two-night minimum, and the maximum stay is 14 nights.
Summer brings warm days, frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and the heaviest booking pressure, especially on holiday weekends. Popular creekside sites at Mash Fork fill quickly, and Ashland Resort draws heavy demand on ATV event weekends.
Fall is prime for cooler nights and Appalachian color, generally peaking in mid to late October at these elevations. Winter camping is possible at private resorts, though snow and ice can affect mountain access roads and Mash Fork operates with limited facilities from November through early April.
How to book
For Mash Fork Campground at Camp Creek State Park, sites can be reserved online through the West Virginia State Parks system, by calling the West Virginia Call Center, or by contacting the park directly. Reservations can be made up to 12 months in advance, and weekend stays in season require at least two consecutive nights.
Private parks handle their own bookings. Brushcreek Falls RV Resort takes reservations directly and lists availability through common travel channels. Ashland Resort books cabins, lodges, and RV sites through its own office and sells Hatfield-McCoy trail permits at the on-site camp store. Riverfront ATV Resort and Deer Trail Park and Campground inc. also book through their own operators.
Book early for summer weekends, fall color, and any ATV event dates. Confirm rig length limits when reserving: Mash Fork accommodates RVs up to about 40 feet, and site layouts vary.
What to expect on arrival
Roads into the mountain campgrounds are winding, and grades can be steep, particularly on the climb to Ashland Resort above Northfork. Drivers of larger rigs should plan a daylight arrival and avoid shortcuts off the interstate.
Mash Fork sits about two miles off I-77 exit 20 and features paved pads, level sites, and a heated bathhouse that stays open year-round. Many sites back onto a creek. Full-hookup availability is limited across the region, with only nine full-hookup sites at Mash Fork, so travelers needing sewer at the site should reserve those specific spots early.
Cell coverage is spotty in the hollows and on trail-system properties, with Verizon service noted as unreliable at Ashland Resort. Bring cash or a card for on-site stores, pack layers for cool mountain evenings even in summer, and expect a mix of families, anglers, and ATV groups depending on the park.
