Campgrounds near Springville
Springville sits in Tazewell County in southwest Virginia, near the West Virginia state line and roughly midway between Bluefield and Tazewell along US 460 and US 19. The area lies within the Appalachian Plateau, and elevations near 2,200 to 2,500 feet mean cooler summer nights than the Virginia lowlands and real winter conditions from late fall through early spring.
RV travelers based in Springville have short drives to campgrounds on both sides of the Virginia and West Virginia line. Riverfront ATV Resort and Ashland Resort sit within the Hatfield-McCoy Trail region in southern West Virginia, with Ashland offering direct trail access onto the Indian Ridge system. Deer Trail Park and Campground inc. is east near Wytheville, closer to the Jefferson National Forest and the I-77 and I-81 junction.
State park camping is within reach on either side. Creekside - Hungry Mother State Park is about an hour east near Marion, and Mash Fork - Camp Creek State Park is roughly the same distance northwest, just off I-77 in Mercer County, West Virginia.
Things to do near Springville
A major draw for RV travelers is the Hatfield-McCoy Trails, a system open 365 days a year across southern West Virginia. The connected Indian Ridge, Pinnacle Creek, Pocahontas, and Warrior systems form one of the largest continuous off-highway vehicle networks east of the Mississippi. Riverfront ATV Resort and Ashland Resort both provide access into that network.
For non-motorized outings, Hungry Mother State Park centers on a 108-acre lake with a sandy swimming beach, boat rentals, and more than 17 miles of hiking and biking trails. Camp Creek State Park and Forest covers nearly 6,000 acres with about 35 miles of trails, waterfalls including Campbell Falls and Mash Falls, and seven miles of seasonally stocked trout streams.

Late spring through early fall is the practical window for most RV trips. May through September brings warm days, long daylight, and full operation of park amenities such as the swimming beach and boat rentals at Hungry Mother State Park, which run between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Summer weekends fill fastest, especially at state park campgrounds with hookups, so booking well ahead is important.
Spring and fall offer cooler temperatures, wildflowers or fall color, and more site availability, though nights at elevation can drop close to freezing. Some park facilities operate on reduced schedules outside the Memorial Day to Labor Day period.
Winter is quieter. Creekside at Hungry Mother and Mash Fork at Camp Creek both operate year-round, but the Camp Creek campground office is closed December through February, and some bathhouse or laundry services may be limited. The Hatfield-McCoy Trails remain open 365 days a year, so ATV-focused stays at Riverfront ATV Resort or Ashland Resort continue through the cold months.
How to book campgrounds near Springville
Virginia State Parks handles reservations for Creekside - Hungry Mother State Park online or by phone, with bookings accepted up to 11 months in advance. Sites are assigned specifically, so choosing the exact site matters. The Creekside access road has a sharp turn that limits rigs to about 30 feet; larger RVs are directed to the Camp Burson area instead.
West Virginia State Parks manages reservations for Mash Fork - Camp Creek State Park through its online system, the West Virginia Call Center, or the park directly. A two-night minimum applies on weekends during the season from the Thursday before Memorial Day through the day after Labor Day, with a 14-night maximum stay.
Private parks including Riverfront ATV Resort, Ashland Resort, and Deer Trail Park and Campground inc. take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Peak ATV-season weekends book early.
What to expect
Sites in the area range from creekside state park loops with electric and water to full-hookup private resorts geared to ATV trailers. Mash Fork offers a mix of electric-only, electric and water, and full-hookup sites with a heated bathhouse, and can handle longer rigs up to around 40 feet. Creekside has 19 paved sites with electric and water but no sewer, plus a bathhouse; a dump station is at the park visitor center.
Cell service is spotty in the mountains and on trail systems. Terrain is hilly with narrow county roads in places, so plan routes for RV length and low bridges. Bring layers for cool nights, insect protection in summer, and buy firewood locally to limit pest spread.
