Campgrounds near Ghent, West Virginia
Ghent sits in Raleigh County in southern West Virginia, minutes from Interstate 77 and within easy reach of several state parks that anchor the region's RV camping. The area is high plateau country on the edge of the Appalachian coalfields, with elevations near 2,500 feet, cooler summer nights than the surrounding lowlands, and dense hardwood forest along creek gorges.
Most RV travelers base out of one of three state park campgrounds or a nearby private resort. Mash Fork at Camp Creek State Park is the closest developed option, with a mix of electric, water-and-electric, and full-hookup sites along a creek. Pipestem Resort State Park sits about 30 minutes south and combines an 82-site campground with lodges, a golf course, and an aerial tramway into the Bluestone Gorge. Little Beaver State Park lies just north near Beaver, and Pipestem RV Park and Campground and Brushcreek Falls RV Resort round out the private options.
Beckley, the regional hub, is a short drive north for groceries, fuel, and propane.
Things to do near Ghent
Camp Creek State Park and Forest covers nearly 6,000 acres with 35 miles of trails and seven miles of seasonally stocked trout streams. Campbell Falls and Mash Fork Falls are short walks from the developed campground and are the park's signature stops.
Pipestem Resort State Park layers on resort-style activities: an aerial tramway drops 1,200 feet into the Bluestone River Gorge, and the park adds two golf courses, ziplines, horseback riding, mountain biking, a splash park, and around 20 hiking trails. Little Beaver State Park centers on an 18-acre lake with rental paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, and paddleboats in season, plus wooded hiking and biking trails.
The New River Gorge National Park and Preserve is roughly 45 minutes north for whitewater, climbing, and the New River Gorge Bridge.

The developed campgrounds at Camp Creek and Pipestem are open year-round, weather permitting, but services scale back sharply outside the main season. Mash Fork's heated bathhouse operates year-round, while the campground office at Camp Creek is closed December through February. Little Beaver State Park's campground typically runs April through October.
Late spring through early fall is the practical RV window. Memorial Day through Labor Day is peak: weekend reservations at Mash Fork require a two-night minimum, and Pipestem's family amenities, pools, tramway, and zipline draw heavy weekend traffic. Sites fill weeks out for major holidays.
Shoulder seasons are quieter and cooler. April and early October see noticeably fewer neighbors, though nighttime temperatures at this elevation can drop close to freezing. October brings hardwood color across the plateau. Winter camping is possible at Mash Fork and Pipestem for self-contained rigs, but expect snow, ice on park roads, and limited on-site services.
Booking a site near Ghent
West Virginia's three state parks in this cluster, Camp Creek, Little Beaver, and Pipestem, all book through the state park system at wvstateparks.com, by phone through the West Virginia Call Center, or directly with the park office during operating months. Reservations open up to 12 months in advance.
During the season running from the Thursday before Memorial Day through the day after Labor Day, weekend reservations at Camp Creek require a minimum of two consecutive nights. A 14-night maximum stay applies at the state park campgrounds. Rigs over 25 feet at Pipestem should call ahead to confirm a suitable site, since some loops have tight approaches.
Brushcreek Falls RV Resort and Pipestem RV Park and Campground handle their own reservations directly and are useful backups when state park sites are full.
What to expect on site
Mash Fork at Camp Creek has 26 back-in sites on paved pads, split among nine electric-only, eight water-and-electric, and nine full-hookup, and accommodates rigs up to about 40 feet. The bathhouse is heated, and a dump station sits on the road out of the park. Cell service is spotty; the campground offers Wi-Fi that varies by site.
Pipestem's main campground has 82 sites, most able to take 30 to 50-foot rigs, with 31 full hookups, 19 electric only, and the balance water and electric. Little Beaver has 46 back-in sites, 30 with water and electric, but no sewer hookups on site; a dump station is near the entrance.
Expect wooded, spaced sites, uneven pads at some loops, and mountain roads on the approach. Bring a pressure reducer, leveling blocks, and a plan for provisioning in Beckley before arrival.
