Campgrounds and RV parks near Hinton, WV

Hinton sits in Summers County at the confluence of the New, Greenbrier, and Bluestone Rivers, giving RV travelers direct access to two major public land systems: Bluestone State Park, along the shores of Bluestone Lake just upstream from Bluestone Dam at the confluence of the Bluestone and New Rivers, and the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve to the north. Most campers base out of the state park or one of the small private parks along the river corridor. Bluestone State Park is home to four distinct campgrounds with a combined 120 campsites; Meador Campground has 32 sites open to RV and tent campers, seven of which offer electric and water hookups, and fifteen electric only, plus a central bathhouse. Berry's Campground and Shady Rest RV Park serve travelers who want hookups closer to town, and Cabins By The Creek is a lodging option for groups splitting between an RV and a hard-sided rental. The area sits in the gently rolling foothills of southern West Virginia, so expect winding two-lane approaches and shaded, wooded sites rather than open pull-throughs.

Bluestone State Park sites are booked through the West Virginia State Parks online reservation system, with campsites available for reservation up to one year in advance, opening on the first day of the month for that month. Peak summer weekends and holidays fill early, so lock in dates as soon as the booking window opens. Stays typically run a minimum of two nights up to a maximum of 14. All New River Gorge campgrounds operate on a first-come, first-served basis year-round, with no reservations accepted at any park campground. Arrive early in the day on summer Fridays and holiday weekends to secure a site. Private options including Berry's Campground, Shady Rest RV Park, and Cabins By The Creek are booked directly with the operator, often by phone for larger rigs that need site-length confirmation.
